Newbies are easy targets because they don't know how to check a verified account or perhaps they jump instantly to the offer especially when they're told to send a small amount of SBD/Steem in exchange for a huge upvote. I once received an offer over at Steemit Chat claiming to be @appreciator with a username @appreciiator to send 1 SBD for a 100% upvote, and although I didn't know about @appreciator yet, vote-buying doesn't sit well in my system so I politely declined their offer.
Being scammed is such a bad experience and we don't want newcomers to be scared away, so why don't we solve this problem by verifying accounts? Especially accounts with good reputations who do business, personal or as a community, over at Steemit. Those big accounts are targetted as well by scammers by using their usernames and good status, so I believe it's a win-win for everyone.

I wouldn't fall for this. Especially since I just gave my bank details to a Nigerian Prince who is going to send me $30,000,000 - so I don't need any Steem.
They're generous like that. I did the same! I just don't know what's he gonna do with my bank account it has $2 in it.
Woah there! How did it go? ;)

Ohh alright. Thank you! It's because I still don't know how to search if the topic's already discussed or suggested. My apologies.
Can you share that memo in your post who was claiming to be from @appreciator, so others can be more cautious and know the scam history of this particular memo on blockchain, if they search for it.
Hello! Unfortunately I have already deleted it. They sent it over to steemit chat. And I couldn't track their account anymore. If I remember correctly, they used double "i" instead of one, but now that I looked for them, it doesn't exist anymore. Usually they target users who uses the post promotion in Steemit chat, so if ever I receive another one, ill put it here, or make another warning post. Apologies.
