[Announcement] Introducing Privex's Network Looking Glass (SWEDEN) 🇸🇪

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

What is a network looking glass?

A Looking Glass is a tool commonly made available by ISPs to allow both peering partners as well as the general public to test the latency and routing of their network.

As part of our work on our new Swedish region, we've developed a looking glass to allow people to test our network before getting a server, as well as to help our peering partners diagnose routing faults.

We have a Public Discord now :)

Join the Privex discord at https://discord.gg/zUVyjzV - all are welcome. Some of our smaller announcements will only be posted on our Discord, so if you're interested in our work, join the Discord.

How do you use it?

Simply go to our Looking Glass website: https://lg.privex.io/

Here are some example IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, as well as popular websites to try:

  • 1.1.1.1
  • 8.8.8.8
  • 2606:4700:4700::1111
  • 2606:4700:4700::1001
  • 2001:4860:4860::8888
  • 2001:4860:4860::8844
  • google.com
  • steemit.com
  • privex.io
  • facebook.com

Simply enter one of these (or a website / IP address of your own choice) into the Hostname/IP box, and hit "Go".

Within 5-10 seconds, the result of the traceroute or ping test will show in the results box, allowing you to see the latency and/or path it takes from our Swedish network to the destination you've entered.

Try it out yourself at https://lg.privex.io/

It's also open source :)

We love to give back to the open source community by releasing many of our projects and libraries as open source on Github.

Our looking glass tool is written in Python 3, the only additional service requirements are Redis and RabbitMQ (no configuration needed, just install them from apt), and it's released under the GNU AGPL v3.

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone for all of your support. Without the Steem community, we would have never managed to get so far.

If you'd like to grab a server, just go to our website: https://www.privex.io - we accept STEEM, SBD, EOS, LTC, and BTC as payment. We offer both Virtual and Dedicated servers (all the way from 1gb up to 768gb of RAM).

Sort:

Ace project for a service provider.

Since Redis is a requirement already, I would love to see some simple queue implementation on Redis instead of RabbitMQ considering the related queue is not mission critical. But, that's a minor and opinionated issue. :)
