Critical Materiality: Creating Toolkits and Methods for Engaging Materiality in HCI .

The goal of this one-day studio is to develop tools to acquire a deeper conceptual and critical understanding of materiality in HCI. Participants will co-develop a shared vocabulary and theoretical framework for "Critical Materiality" as a strategy to be deployed in conceiving and implementing HCI artifacts and experiences.

Scenarios and the art of world making .

They have explored the relevance of Goodman's notion of world making for scenario practice. They argued that the central tenet of worldmaking can help the scenatio practitioners move beyond the limitations of probability based approaches because it recognizes the limitations of coupling the imagining of futures to a single objective presenet or 'real reality'. Questioning the constructed nature of a scenario or its mobilisastion of a predefined present may bbe useful for identifying some of the hidden yet salient assumptions that underlie the process.

A Multisensory Design Probe: An Approach for Reducing Technostress .

Using the lens of critical design, they created a design probe to explore the concept of technology induced stress. The probe builds on the topic of slow technology and embraces multisensory experiences as a tool for individuals to reflect on their relationship with technology. Their probe can be distinguished from prior design probes in the sense that it investigates sensory experiences and follows the framework of slow technology to inform the design of future interactive technologies.
