Today I present to you one of the paintings that I like the most about Diego Velazquez, a Spanish painter who has become famous for the Las Meninas painting, however this painting is so beautiful and so well done that I would like to share with you some of the its history and anecdotes.
The Venus behind the mirror - Diego Velazquez
This painting was first seen in the inventory of the Marquis of Eliche around 1651. Art historians think that the woman in bed is her lover, since she painted the reflected face blurred to give greater importance to the nude body of the Lady and not show her true face. The use of loose brushstroke is highlighted in this painting, which gives the feeling that air flows between the figures, known as "velazquez air", a technique developed by this painter.
On March 10, 1914 this painting had one of his greatest adventures, when a militant suffragist, Mary Richardson, entered the National Gallery and stabbed several times with a knife, damaging the area of the back and shoulder.

This attack was carried out by Mary Richardson for the unjustified detection of her suffragette friend, Emmeline Pankhurst, the day before, at the time of damaging the work she was arrested and declaring: "that she harms the most beautiful woman in mythological history as a protest against the Government of the destruction of Mrs. Pankhurst ", which was the most beautiful character in modern history according to her.

Hoy les presento uno de los cuadros que a mi más me gusta de Diego Velazquez, pintor español que se ha hecho famoso por el cuadro de Las Meninas, sin embargo este cuadro es tan hermoso y tan bien realizado que me gustaría compartir con ustedes parte de su historia y anécdotas.
Este cuadro fue visto por primera vez en el inventario del Marqués de Eliche cerca del año 1651. Los historiadores del arte piensan que la mujer en la cama es su amante, ya que pintó el rostro reflejado difuminado para darle mayor importancia al cuerpo desnudo de la dama y no mostrar su verdadero rostro. Se destaca en esta pintura la utilización de la pincelada suelta, que da esa sensación de que entre las figuras corre el aire, denominado como "aire velazqueño", técnica desarrollada por este pintor.
El 10 de marzo de 1914 esta pintura tuvo una de sus mayores aventuras, cuando una sufragista militante, Mary Richardson, entró en la National Gallery y realizo varias puñaladas con un cuchillo al cuadro, dañando mayormente la zona de la espalda y hombro.
Este atentado lo realizo Mary Richardson por la detección injustificada de su amiga sufragista, Emmeline Pankhurst el día anterior, en el momento de dañar la obra a ella la apresaron y al declarar comento: "que ella daño a la mujer más bella en la historia mitológica como protesta contra el Gobierno de la destrucción de la señora Pankhurst”, que era el personaje más bello de la historia moderna según ella.
