Hive 24 Introduction

Hey everyone. I am writing here today to announce a little dice game that I vibe coded called Hive 24.

It's run entirely in the web browser so all you have to do is just navigate to :

Hive 24 Dice Game.

Game Play

Hive 24 is a variation on the dice game 1-4-24 that is played in many bars and pubs across America.

The rules are simple.

  • There are six dice that are rolled.
  • Your goal is to score as high as possible to 24.
  • Every roll you must select 1 die.
  • You MUST have a 1 and a 4! If not , it's an automatic lose.
  • The remaining 4 dice are totaled and that is your score.
  • You can select ANY die you like every roll.
  • To select a die, just click on it.
  • After all of your rolls, the game gives you your score.
  • You can play as many times and as long as you like.
Tip: When playing, you do not have to take a 1 or a 4 in your earliest rolls. You can select higher dice and hope you get the 1 and/or 4 in later roles. It's risky but you could hit that 24!

About creating the game

I was always interested in making a few mini games using AI but just never really got around to it. I have been doing other projects like SoloHive , HiveWrite and HiveDrop, which you can find at my GitHub. https://github.com/dotw-hive

I finally decided to give it a whirl when I read a post by @forkyishere titled Why should you be trying to learn more about AI?. I saw that it got a really good reception from the community, with a few Hivers making there own vibe coded apps.

I decided to use GLM-5.1 as my LLM of choice. You can find it at https://chat.z.ai/

Why did I pick that one instead of ChatGPT or Claude? Why not. I wanted to give it a try and thought this would be a fun little project to see how it did. And I think it did a really nice job. It pretty much got everything on the first shot. Though I am familiar with prompting LLM from working on my other projects.

Wrap up

This was a fun little break from the other vibe coding stuff I have been doing. I know it's not a big complex piece of software, but that's not really my style. I like lightweight and the simpler the better.

I hope all of you have fun playing this silly little game as much as I had making it.

Until next time....
