While we are all stuck inside and have watched everything on Netflix and other streaming services, a new obsession of mine is watching zoo live streams. Fortunately, here in Australia, we have a lot of zoos and quite a few have some great live streams to watch.
Perhaps one of the most interesting side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is zoos being closed to the public here in Australia, you get to see a different side to animals. The lack of visitors means animals behave differently, acting as if it were night time. It's actually quite fascinating.
Taronga Zoo, Sydney
One of the most well known Australians zoos, they have a few live streams. On their Taronga TV page you can watch; tigers, elephants, meerkats and seals. There are also chats with zookeepers on there as well. I highly recommend elephant cam.
Sea Life Aquarium, Sydney
If marine life is your thing, Sea Life aquarium has some quality streams. You can watch; shark feeding, baby seahorses, penguins and dugongs.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Queensland
By far one of the biggest offerings, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary has 18 live streams you can watch. As you might expect, they have quite a few koala cams you can watch (being a sanctuary and all), but they also have other animals including dingos and dingo puppies. I never realised dingo puppies were so cute, probably rip you to shreds still, but cute nonetheless.
They also have reptile cam, showcasing skinks, lizards and goannas. And last and not least the platypus live cams if you've ever wanted to watch these fascinating Australian water creatures.
Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary, Victoria
One site contains a heap of live streams from a few Victorian zoos. You have a lot of animals to choose from here; Echidnas, koalas, tree-kangaroos, snow leopards, zebras, penguins, lions and giraffes.
The Nature Conservancy
Not exactly a zoo, but worthy of inclusion nonetheless. A live stream of a reef, see sealife do their thing and get lost in the calmness of watching a reef.
