"Art" from around town

in #vn4 years ago

Da Nang is still under a pretty serious lockdown, but we are still entitled to walk around even though we are only supposed to leave the house for essential purposes. I consider exercise and being at least a little bit free to be "essential." Plus I wear a mask and intentionally avoid any areas that have people in them so nobody can really get on my case about being unsafe. I guess I am a little bit non compliant but I don't see the harm in walking around a bit and taking some photos.

This one is appropriate in Vietnam and I think most of you know who that is. Che Guevara is famous all over the world but here in Vietnam I think it is more appropriate than it is in say New Jersey where someone probably doesn't even know much about him. He is a hero to many not because of his ideology but because he has some cool t-shirts man! Also Rage Against the Machine made his image mainstream before that bad totally self destructed.

This is a communist country though, and since they have embraced all of that it does make a bit more sense that Che would be a bit of an icon here. The above image was on some random wall on private property that i discovered while going for a walk looking for things to take pictures of. It was weathered and appeared to have been there for a while so maybe it still will be when you get here! You can find it at this location

Just like in any urban area, there isn't a lot of nature in the concrete jungle so people rely on small gardens and potted plants to create a bit of an ambiance and most of these folks tend to look after their plants very well. In the evenings you can see almost every shop owner and residence owner / manager out front with a hose making sure their plants are well tended to. It's quite a site actually. It's almost as though they get a group message at the same time and are ordered to go water the plants now.

This particular plant owner was trying a bit harder than his / her neighbors. I thought it was pretty cool and I would imagine that a lot of people stop to take a photo of this every day.

How are you handling your lockdown if you have one?

I would say there is very little chance that Che is actually spray. It does look pretty good though. Those flower pots are probably pre-fab but that doesn't make them any less cool. I want some of them now.

no it was not spray. There is very little around here that is spray that is even worth taking a picture of. Mostly just gang signs or whatever you want to call that. I call it crap.
