life on a deserted island || Part II

in #volunteerlast year

continuing my story in the previous hive post which tells about community service in remote areas of eastern Indonesia, to be precise, the island of Flores.

We have 3 weeks to carry out the program in Boleng village. After a long preparation we have done to prepare a work program. Of course the program we are doing here aims to help the surrounding community from all the problems they face in their daily lives.

the decision on the program that we are running is also based on problem analysis and discussion with the local community so that we consult to decide on the right solution and program for this village

To make work easier, we divide the work focus into several divisions which include: health, education and ecotourism

in this area there are still many children dropping out of school because of minimal facilities and teaching staff who are still lacking to fill each student hour, it is not uncommon for one teacher to be able to teach from grade one to grade six elementary school due to a shortage of teaching staff. this makes children's motivation to go down to get an education and prefer to help their parents as fishermen because they feel they have no hope for the future from education

it is very concerning to see this condition, we can't help much the children here are only filling in the classes to teach lessons while playing as well as motivating them to keep up the enthusiasm and aspirations for a better future. sometimes we play outside the classroom to play together and practice in the material that has been taught such as how to live a clean and healthy life by practicing brushing your teeth together!

because this island is surrounded by open ocean, it has very hot weather during the day which makes it difficult for plants to live and thrive, the only occupation of the people here is fishing. they go out to sea every day and sell their catch in the market. Due to the lack of clean water in this area, many people suffer from skin diseases and we help to treat free of charge everyone who wants treatment

that's the program and activities that we did on this island for 3 weeks which were very short and maybe couldn't help much with their problems as a whole but our presence here has made the people here happy

and in the end we also had to part with these villagers and return to our respective residences

it's really a very pleasant experience to be able to interact with the people of this island who are very kind and open to welcome us

Thank you for reading this hive post to the end

I hope you have a good and fun day

I hope we can always see more of the world in a different way and can help each other for a better life .
