then we headed towards Yaletown distillery and started our ranting (and giggling fits). the host was very nice but a bit awkward with telling us that outside drinks were not allowed - this was after we sat down. we understand but it would have been nice if she told us at the door. nevertheless, Craig (the bartender and our server) came by and helped out us. we started off with some drinks - Aperol spritz for me, g&t for a, and house red for s.
it makes sense to have some food with the drinks - had the chickpea fries (different but good), meatballs (to die for) and parmesan baguette (cheesy and crispy - good to have to the sauce from the meatballs!). there was another moment of awkwardness when one of the servers kept asking for our food plates when we were still clearly nibbling away. s wanted something sweet at the end so we had the house-made chocolate mousse - DEF highlight at the end of our night. the mousse was light and rich in chocolate flavor. the salted caramel and salt flakes added a salty tang that contrasted with the sweetness of the mousse.
also wanted to give a shout-out to the YDG gin in the g&t - juniper def stands out, which I LOVE in my gin. another place to add to my hh list!
