the Precision Brewer Thermal 12-Cup Coffee Maker

By: Crema Coffee Garage

When comparing the Moccamaster Thermal Coffee Brewer and the Precision Brewer from Breville, it is clear to see that both machines make a range of quantities of delicious batch filter coffee and are both certified by the SCA. The Breville is made up of complete brushed stainless steel casing and the water tank is a large 1.8 litres in size, making up to 12 cups of coffee. The Moccamaster waters tank is slightly smaller, coming in in a 1.25 litre, making up to 10 espresso cups. However, the Moccmaster is majorly made up of BPA-free plastic and is handcrafted in the Netherlands. The Breville offers up to five preset brewing modes and a custom mode that is appropriately named 'My Brew', giving the ability to customise your Bloom Time, Flow Rate and your Water Temperature. The Moccamaster has a single switch function to get the brew started and the main control over the brew comes with the adjustment of the valve on the front of the plastic cone filter.

The Breville offers a variety of baskets to suit the different brew methods and quantities that it offers, along with provided paper filters. Whereas the Moccamaster simply requires one universal filter basket in conjunction with the paper filter for all brew quantities. Both Brewers have the ability to make more individually appropriate sized quantities of coffee, not just those larger batches. Both machines have a thermal, food quality grade stainless steel carafe. The Breville enables the lid to stay on during both the brewing and the extraction process. Whereas the Moccamaster carafe comes with two types of lids, a brewing lid and a transport lid.

When it comes to the quality of the end result, both machines produce a delicious filter coffee, making it hard to pick a favourite. If you are someone who likes being in control of all the elements of your coffee and experimenting with different methods and variables, then the Breville Precision Brewer would be perfect for you. If you prefer to be able to pour in your coffee, fill up your water tank, flick a switch, walk away and still end up with a delicious filter coffee, then the Moccamaster is your guy.
