Patí Limonense Delight

In celebration of cultural unity and one of the favorite delicacies of our gastronomic heritage, I present to you my recipe for Patí Limonense. This delectable dish brings the flavors of Limón, Costa Rica, straight to your kitchen. Using my Cuisinart appliances, preparing this treat is a breeze!

Ingredients

🧅 1 medium onion, finely chopped
🫑 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
🧄 3 cloves garlic, minced
🔥 1 teaspoon hot sauce, Salsa Lizano Caribeña
🥕 1 cup grated carrots
🧈 2 tablespoons butter, Dos Pinos Butter
🍖 1 pound ground beef, Del Campo Ground Beef
🥔 2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
🌿 1 tablespoon chopped thyme
🧂 1 teaspoon salt
🧄 1 teaspoon garlic powder
🌶️ 1 teaspoon black pepper
🌊 1 cup coconut milk, Coco López Coconut Milk
🍞 2 cups all-purpose flour
🧈 1/4 cup Cuisinart cold unsalted butter, cubed
💧 1/2 cup water
🥚 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

1- Prepare the Filling:

  • In a Cuisinart Skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, red bell pepper, and garlic, and sauté until soft.
  • Stir in the hot sauce, grated carrot, ground beef, mashed potatoes, thyme, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until the beef is browned and well combined with the vegetables.
  • Pour in the coconut milk and let it simmer for 5 more minutes until thickened. Set aside to cool.

2- Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and a pinch of salt. Add the cubed cold butter and mix with a Cuisinart Stand Mixer until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Gradually add water and mix until the dough comes together. Knead lightly on a floured surface and let it rest for 30 minutes.

3- Assemble the Patí:

  • Preheat your Cuisinart Oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll the dough out to about 1/8 inch thick and cut into circles using a cookie cutter or a glass.
  • Place a tablespoon of the meat mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over and seal the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with beaten egg.

4- Bake:

  • Place the Patís on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
