Fresh Snow at the Reservoir - Part 1

in #walkwithme8 years ago (edited)

Even though this is the 4th nor-easter to hit Central New Jersey in as many weeks and the driving conditions were, let's just say, terrible, I just had to get out and take some photos of the fresh-fallen, and still falling, snow.

It was basically deserted at the Manasquan Reservoir, barring a few Canada geese, some birds, a squirrel and, later on, a park pickup truck plowing the snow.

P.S. Apologies for the water spots on many of these captures, as it was challenging to keep the lens dry. And without a tripod and the commensurate slower shutter speeds, many of them have a fairly high ISO value.

Wow, you braved that weather! Thanks for the walk. I was too cold and the driving was too nasty for me to venture out this afternoon. One more thing...that's enough snow this year!

I couldn't agree more, we need this winter to quietly walk away!!!

I was wondering if I'd see snow pictures from you today. :) It looked like the snowstorms were suppose to end just above where I live but we managed to get a tiny shower. Let's hope the 4th is the last and we can finally head to spring.

I was thinking and hoping for that 3 storms ago ;-)

I didn't realize the NE was still having winter storms. Tell the weather that it's spring and it needs to start giving you sunshine. Maybe you can get a sun-nado! I don't even know what that is, but it sounds different.

That looks like a nice place to walk. Can you go fishing there during the (late) spring and summer?

The reservoir is a 5-mile walk around. Yes, fishing, boating, kayaks, horseback riding, and of course lots of walkers, runners, and cyclists.

I particularly like the shots with the water @cognoscere. Photographs 4 and 6 are stunning! 😊
I admire your fortitude getting out there in the cold. Hopefully it's warmed up a bit now. It certainly has in the UK. Hoorah! Although we're still not into double figures. Boo!

Thanks!!! I was debating going out, as the weather and the road conditions weren't very good. But I'm glad I ventured out. It was so peaceful and quiet since there wasn't too much wind this time.

Lack of wind makes all the difference as far as I'm concerned @cognoscere. It is my least favourite of all the elements. Plays havoc with one's photographs too. 😁

Wishing you a wonder full day!

I always laugh and bite my tongue when people say this but: "The snow is so pretty" LOL For once I get to say it and not have to deal with the white stuff!

I know right? Well, I'm about done with it, the thrill of shoveling wears away rather quickly ;-)

haha -- you won't like my comment to your Part 2! Sorry about that! ; )
At least you may be happy to know that it is, right now, snowing here, too. Big, wet flakes! It started right after I left that comment on your other post, lol. Happy early spring! ; )

Very cool! Awesome to have somewhere to go when you have conditions like this! I'm usually looking out from a nice warm house instead!

Beautiful! I love that it's not too cold today. 😊

Today was a beautiful sunny and relatively warm day, considering how much show we got yesterday. A good bit of it has already melted. No drought this spring, that's for sure!

Beautiful photos. Can't make out the last one thou.

Thanks!!! The last one is just a couple of snow covered buds.

damn, I am so glad to not be Jersey right now. Beautiful, but sure as shit don't want to drive on it!

I hear you, it's the price we have to pay in the Northeast to be able to enjoy all four seasons!

Snow represents the true beauty of nature . Really wonderful photos . Thanks for sharing

I really like the one with the water/reflections. And I agree, as in the pouring rain, the snapping can be a bit adventurous now and then. I have a retractable lens on my Lumix, and I'm always concerned with it ushering water into the works. Wipe shoot, wipe, repeat. But at least it works. (SOME day I hope to replace my old Nikon D200, that has spots, and changes color temperature at random, because it can, I guess). Have a nice day weekend in the snow, if possible.
