Waves Platform Journey - What is waves?

Learning the Wave Platform

Lately, I've acquired a lot of interest in the waves platform, in my studying on blockchain technology. I initially ran across waves a few months ago as I was learning the ins and outs of the crypto currency exchanges and really didn't think too much of it. As time progressed, though, I've learned that Waves is a token build on a decentralized platform similar to Ethereum. Much to my surprise, I learned that the Waves platform also is a decentralized exchange, also, similar to bitshares or etherdelta. This definitely sparked my interest, with it's plethora of features.

So, lets take a look at waves

The Waves Platform official site is located at https://www.wavesplatform.com. From there you can either use the platform via the web based client or you can download the Waves Client and use the platform via the application. Personally, I suggest using the application as it decreases a lot of security concerns. Upon your first usage, you create your private and public keys, get your security seed, address and password for future login and wallet usage.

Once you're logged in to the platform, you have options to exchange token and coins, just like a traditional crypto currency exchange. Also, you can buy and exchange with fiat currencies (even though there are some limitations on the buying side of the equation, but that's all regulatory bullshit). Also there is an option to lease your waves tokens to the network and make a small percentage (passive income). Then there is your assets and portfolio, where you can store any token created on the Waves platform and many other tokens as well, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and many more coins and token that are NOT created on the Waves platform. This features make the Waves Client comparable to multi-coin/token wallets such as Exodus.

The most notable feature you get with the Waves Platform is the ability to create your own token, directly in the client and then put it on the exchange. This feature makes creating your own token super simple, whether you actually have a project and using token as a currency, have an ICO or just wanna create a token just because.

So, recently, I created a token for a project I'm starting. The token is HoodToken, the project is Hoodchain. As I a building my project, I will be posting tips, tricks and tutorials as I delve into the Waves Platform API. If anyone is interested, please inquire in the comments.

If anyone would like some free HoodToken to add to your portfolio, leave your waves address in the comments...
