A long, long time ago in cryptoworld, one needed an investment to create and sell a NFT.

What is a NFT?

NFT means Non-fungible Token. Non-fungible means that one isn’t the same as another, allowing each token to be unique. This uniqueness can represent any digital asset, from an item in a video game, to a piece of art.

While the investment required to create or trade a NFT was usually Ethereum gas prices, objectively negligible (at least then), it required crypto, creating a substantial barrier to entry. Despite this, NFTs have thrived since the beginning.

When Cryptokitties took the world by storm, we saw the first widespread use of NFTs. Today, while **DeFi **grabs headlines and clogs the Ethereum blockchain, there is another application of blockchain steadily gaining traction in the background, NFTs.

Instead of mimicking stocks and currency trading, NFTs share more commonalities with a trading card game. Any publisher, from person to collective to company, can release limited edition digital assets into a global market.

Any buyer can become a seller with just a click of a button, providing something of an evolution from the the baseball card’s paper body. Furthermore, it’s possible for the baseball player (or in our case, the minter of the NFT) to make a percentage of each sale, a common practice in the space.

NFTs today

With the new generation of blockchain solutions, things get faster and much cheaper. Though Bitcoin and Ethereum require mining for transactions to complete and the users to pay a fee for this mining, we’ll be using a system that works differently.

We’ll be using an EOS-based chain called WAX that is hugely popular, and well known for NFTs. On Wax, you can get an account linked to your Google or other account, log in to your wallet with that login, and mint NFTs absolutely for free, thanks to pink.network’s Atomic Assets.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting your artwork on the blockchain.

How To Create and Sell a NFT of your art

  1. Create a free Wax account **here**

  1. Once you have an account, go to the Atomic Assets NFT creator: **https://wax.atomichub.io/creator**

Atomic Assets’ NFT Creator

First, create a collection

Next, visit your collection, then click “create new schema” at the bottom.

You can add different attributes to your NFT if you wish, or just stick with the default two. Adding other attributes can make your NFT something you can use in a game, or other application, but is not required.

Once you have a schema, go there, and click “Mint New Asset”

Next, you’ll have to fill in the details for your NFT. You can mint 1–10 copies, though if you are using a free account, you may run into issues minting more than 3 copies at a time.

This is because you need staked resources to do a “lot” on the blockchain, but luckily, with the help of pink.network, we can mint our NFTs with no initial investment. They’ll handle the costs for us.

IMPORTANT: Be SURE to put yourself as the asset owner. Type/paste your name in the top right of the site into the field.

And we did it!!

You can now check out your digital asset

Having difficulty? Check out the official guide, here

You did it! You now have a digitalized version of your art that others can purchase and also sell in an open + instant market.

Thanks for taking this journey with me!
