vIRL NFT's on WAX

in #wax2 years ago (edited)

I'm pretty sure owning a physical foiled Dr. Blight card gives me some bragging rights. I recently received a package in the mail from NFT artist Blockchain Cards (aka @reseller).

WAX and vIRL NFT's

I've grown fond of the WAX blockchain over the past couple of years. WAX is the blockchain with the most transactions per day of all blockchains in existence. Yes, even more than Hive! Just have a look at the latest stats from @blocktivity.

And like Hive, transactions on WAX are also fee-less and super fast, which makes it an ideal chain for anything that has to do with minting/trading/gaming with NFT's. That's actually also what it's specifically designed for.

So, another really cool concept that's been introduced by the WAX team are vIRL NFT's. vIRL is short for 'virtual in real life'. The concept is explained very well in this short video:

Even shorter explained, it's NFT's that can be traded in/redeemed for physical items.

An example

Behold the super rare, one of a kind reverse negative "misprint" of 'The Collector', of which I recently received a physical signed version of in the mail!

The BlockchainCards Collection

All items showcased in this post are from the BlockchainCards Collection. They're known as @reseller on the Hive blockchain and are one of the pioneers over on WAX in utilizing the vIRL concept. They also have many years of experience in dealing with collectibles in general, and are regularly doing various pack sales where NFT's can be collected and blended (WAX-lingo for combining certain NFT's to make other, often better/more rare NFT's). They're also the producer/artist behind the physical Splinterlands promo cards.

Their official site can be found over on NeftyBlocks via https://firstmint.io.

Card quality and feel

The cards they produce are of a super high quality. If you've ever held any other collectible card type before, like Magic: The Gathering-cards or Pokemon-cards, these are of the same standard. I've even heard rumors they're actually made in the same print-factory as MTG-cards. Here are some close-ups:

A 'Dogey Pett' Star Wars inspired card + 'Adam Appetite' from GarbagePailKids

Three Doge Baseball-cards from their annual summer-series 'Summer of Doge'

Last but not least, a signed and limited edition custom Funko Pop

Collecting stuff is so much fun! I'll admit I usually prefer digital collectibles, but when they're as high quality as this stuff (and at the same time having a connection to the digital counterparts), it kinda feels like the best of both worlds.

Have you checked out the WAX ecosystem yet? If so, what's your favorite collection?

I like the vIRL NFT idea... I think it would be nice to have a physical reminder of your favorite nft projects that have changed your life so much

Right! And then you get to put them in cases like this, to keep them nice and undamaged :D
