All methods are adapted to the field conditions and technological capabilities. But now there is a new technique to catch drones without using jamming technology that is quite complex. Openworks Enginering, a British weapons technology industry, introduced Skywall 100 Man Portable Drone Defense. Nicknamed Man Portable because the system uses Skywall 100 is almost the same as the MANPADS missile system. The capture system is using bullets that can throw nets, so that the drones are hit by nets issued by projectiles, and drones that have been caught landed using parachutes.
Skwall 100 has an empty weight of up to 12 kg, with a compressed air power shooting system, projectile shots capable of reaching a maximum height of up to 100 meters. The Skywall system is claimed to be able to capture drones that are moving 15 meters / second, or have a cruise speed of 12.5 meters / second. Because it uses a compressed air power system, it produces the sound of shooting the yak not too hard, it can even be used for silent operations.
The aiming system uses Smart Scope, using Reflex Scope which is connected to the range dispay, which is used for daytime. The shooting system can be equipped with laser with integrated gyroscopes and an atmospheric sensor package. Reload system from Skywall 100 is relatively fast (breach loading).
Skywall 100 uses ammunition similar to mortar projectiles. The weight of the projectile reaches 760 grams, when the projectile breaks, there will be an expanding tube that will be 8 meters wide, then the drone will be caught. The first trial used a DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter drone which was captured. then through landed using a parachute. One Skywall 100 package consists of a training projectile (SP01), projectile net deployment (SP10), projectile net with parachute (SP40), and projectile net with ECM (Electronic Counter Measure) (SP80). Everything is IP54 standard and can be used at a temperature of -5 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Despite being new, Skywall 100 has been used by the Secret Service during the security of President Barack Obama's visit in Berlin, in November 2016. Skywall 100 is intended to ward off the potential for terrorist attacks using drones. Besides Skywal 100, there is a Skywall 200 variant that has mounting, and Skywall 300 which has an automatic launcher that can be controlled using the remote.
