in #weather4 years ago

Tropical storm Hanna has been upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane. The storm has had sustained winds up to 50 MPH. The eye of the storm is expected to make landfall by Saturday evening. The leading edge of the storm is expected to drop six to eight inches of water over much of South Texas, with up to twelve inches in some areas. Residents are being warned to be on the lookout for flash flooding.

Cities have begun gearing up for emergency services, including the distribution of sand bags to residents. County precincts are similarly making preparations to prevent flooding and help residents prepare. Governor Abbott has resources on standby to assist with any emergency services needed.

All of this is occurring while South Texas deals with a higher incidence of COVID-19 infections and deaths than the rest of the state.
