Yesterday we felt bloody trapped. So trapped that Jamie was looking for flights to Australia every other hour. I was stressing as I don't want to risk a flight home, and don't want to spent two weeks in forced hotel quarantine. Today was better - we went a-walking, and there isn't much you can't walk away from, including your troubles.
Don't worry, we weren't breaking any rules, unless looking after your mental health is a rule now. We weren't further than about ten miles from home, kept our distance, and did our daily exercise. It felt normal, and cheerful. We met many doing the same, who smiled at us when we smiled at them. You gotta do it first, just in case they're feeling cautious. If you don't smile at them, you think the world's full of grumpy suspicious assholes, and that's not quite true.
Willow's a rescue dog, a pure bred collie with lanky legs and neurosises as long as his legs. But he's getting much better with our company and he's even got so good that he is allowed to come on walks with us. This walk is about a twenty minute drive away and it winds along a river. It's so bloody green out there it hurts the eyes.
Every where around here are ruins - ironworks, stone lime kilns, bridges. There's medieval mounds and more recent additions to the landscape - history upon history layered.
Along this way were a heap of amazing houses to get jealous over. People clearly have some money around here - really magical places to live. They are beautifully maintained. One even had a pool, which is rare around here. I could socially distance in a house like this with absolute pleasure.
We'll definitely be back to enjoy this walk. For those that might know Somerset, it's on the East Mendip way, near Frome. Life certainly looked up today as we explored, knowing there's any number of walks we can explore within spitting distance around here, which will at least give us the feeling we've travelled somewhere, even though it's in one small area of one shire on this small island.
Have you managed to get out and walking?

Glad you got away with it without getting arrested!
I think it's come to that.
I nipped out for some vino earlier, went in my running gear with my running bag so I could pass it off as a quick stop off post-run.
Shhh!
Jealous - we are on 10 days alcohol free nationwide (sweet goddess only knows why!). 🍷 "They" are talking about extending the ban to the end of the month. Urgh. It's all becoming control games with unclear purpose and undefined end points.
That's just insane!
Wine is an essential item!!!!!
Isn't it funny the facades we are all juggling on our missions, and the excuses we have ready just in case. It's all rather silly!
What the actual f?
Our "10 days alcohol free for the health of the Kingdom" has now been extended till April 30th. Urgh. What the actual f indeed.
Looks simply divine !! Travelling is a mindset and so yes, you will know EVERY INCH of Somerset before lockdown ends. It DOES look delightful and oh-so-verdant.
beautiful place, seems like something out of a fairy tale. <3
That is definitely a stunning place for a walk! Hope you are feeling a bit better today! We are all definitely having our ups and downs, and everything in between. I've been walking a lot more lately. I normally love my runs, but walking seems much more my speed right now. Usually only take about 30 minutes, which is just enough some days to shake off the feeling of containment and get some vitamin D. 🌞
Much better for walking, that's for sure. Had a really rough few days. The weather has been amazing - it just started raining today!!!! It's so beautiful out there though, we'll put raincoats on and go out exploring again for our mental health.
I did get out for a walk. The ruins around here don't look as magical as they do there though.
I'm glad you guys got out for some fresh air and to de-stress. It seems cabin fever is setting in. You don't need to be locked in a small space to get cabin fever. Just the fact that your movements are restricted at all is enough.
I hope you two get to continue on soon.
I hope so too - it's been a little rough the last few days, but we have reframed it again in our heads and have really enjoyed exploring again. xx
being stuck not being able to get out on walks is so frustrating
this looks like such a beautiful place for a walk it looks so calming
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)
It was really calming! We need our walks more than ever.
Ohh yeah I know I am missing my walks
I loved the first river photo! And that house you found, it looks wonderful. :))
Thankyou! There were a lot of posh houses along that stream/river - unbelievable! One had their own water mill and a a jetty alongside the house. They really are stunning. years ago they would have been almost ruined, but many really done up now as extraordinary homes!
This is magical! I wish my quarantine was being spent there instead of in the city :D
Oh, we are very lucky!!! Are you gettin gout at all?
I wish! I only leave to go to the supermarket, unfortunately. It has been hard, but hopefully things will get better soon :)
Happy to hear you have all these beautiful surroundings available to you. It's a challenge sometimes to be stuck in the middle of a big city. But I'll take my bike today and go a bit further than I usually do. Just to see something different, at least for one day. (I'm also on the lookout for flights but it doesn't help to stress about this of course). Sending you love and light ❤️🤗
I think a lot of people are exercising more than ever to prevent going stir crazy!!!! Where do you need to fly to?
Sweden. Have to leave my flat here in Berlin by the end of the month. At the moment there are no flights so I might have to take the ferry...
I try to go running at night but Nature feels is out of reach. At least the leafs are going to come out on the Mountain soon making things interesting.
In my mind, we were living in a fragile system that liked to act invulnerable. Now more than ever, Fair Trade models come as a way to reroute ressources way more efficiently than big corporations. The problem is grain, it is just too important and too precarious. Our civilization depends on it.
Is it on purpose that the PeakD banner serves as the head of the NM banner XD
I like that you let me know you feel trapped, that way we can feel trapped together!
You take some amazing pictures, I love them all.
Take good care of yourself, much love to you!
Wonderful place and pics, Definitely I would like to be there, the place seems like something from a fairy tale. <3
