Week 09 Response: Addressing Extreme Poverty

in #week-093 years ago (edited)

Do you believe that there is a solution to poverty?

Simply said, no there is no solution to poverty, but there are ways to help improve the quality of life. Poverty has existed as long as history has been written down and maybe even before that as well. Not all poverty is self-made, but since there are always going to be lazy and give up at every hardship with no one who supports them creates a level of poverty. The fact that poetry is subjective means that it will never go away as well. What people consider poverty in the United States is completely different from what people consider poverty in the middle east like Afghanistan. There is always going to be a group of people who do not have as much money or luxury items in the world, creating the lower class that can be labeled as poverty. Although there is no true solution to poverty, there are ways to improve the quality of life in those places that truly have no resources from their government. One solution is to go to these places and plant community farms. Of course, this task would not be easy as there are many factors. The soil may be too acidic or have too much alkaline to grow suitable high calories crops like corn, potatoes, rice, etc. Crops need water, so access to water that does not have any harsh aspects like too much salt (ocean water). Then there is the aspect of language barrier of teaching locals and even if they would be open to something like this. These are just some factors that make this journey a difficult one, but maybe a necessary one. There are other options that are more temporary like food drives or clothe drives that may help for a short period of time to increase the quality of life, but it is never going to be enough. Even though poverty exists, it is possible to accomplish an improved quality of life for people in poverty.
