The Sovereign Goat Man's Bro-Fitness Tip

Older lifters make a yuge mistake of adding weight too soon during training.

Don’t underestimate the importance of getting into the correct position. Don’t underestimate the importance of getting the movements grooved-in.

Warm up thoroughly, then stretch and do empty bar drills before adding weight. This is not just a Weightlifting thing. This is a lifting thing.

The biggest mistake is when lifters (of any age) add the weight too soon without hitting the proper positions. Several things can happen if you do this:

a. You will rob yourself of kilos (or pounds)

b. Your “ungrooved” body will compensate for the lack of mobility and could actually hurt you.

c. Lifting is mental. Your brain will sense your body is not grooved-in, and the brain will reduce your confidence in lifting as it protects the body from potential injury.

Take your time to warm up and get in proper positions. Don’t worry, you will not overtrain.

Today was snatch day. Here are some thingies I do in preparation for doing the actual work sets.

Sometimes, it takes longer to warm up, stretch, do drills, etc.. than the actual training.

But it’s well worth it.

Next time I will share my clean and jerk progression training.

Some of my favorite lifts. I agree, very important to create and maintain a strong mind/body connection, especially before complex movements.
