Ok, so yesterday I have decided to write a kind of introductory post, not the usual #introduceyourself thing here on steemit, but something a bit different. I tried to introduce myself through what Blog posts I have already made as well as what other topics I will (most likely) cover in the future. Guess what happened, another celebrity just came to steemit and posted his introduction right before mine.
I have nothing against @charlieshrem, in fact I have voted for him, and he probably has a lot of things that he can actually contribute to steemit, he just came in the right moment to use him as example. The problem with steemit at the moment that it is encouraging and welcoming new popular users to register and bring their followers, it definitely needs that to grow in terms of a user base. However at the same it seems that there is not much done to actually keep current users that are trying their best to create quality content for the platform.
Strength is in the numbers, bringing a lot of new users will surely also bring some people that will contribute quality and unique content, but will these also stay and not get discouraged and leave after some posts? Remember @brendazambrano, she came to steemit with a big bang, introduced the platform to her millions of follower and now is nowhere to be found. With just two quite successful posts on steemit she managed to make some money and earn a significant Steem Power, but that voting power is sitting there and doing nothing. Her third post was nothing special in terms of user interest and rewards, so she probably decided to move to something else. What about the people she brought to steemit, that is yet to be seen.
As people say: a picture is worth thousand words, but only on steemit an image can be worth thousands of Steem Dollars...
I've been saying it for weeks now. Whales vote for the famous people that have big followings elsewhere and might get those people to come to steemit. Content doesn't seem to matter it's who you are and what you might do for steemit.
Like what I said in my previous comments that could it be possible that these people have networks and will help those members of that network? I hope its not true, I only have few whales who answer me everytime I sent a message to them and I appreciate them for that. The problem here is that there bots that has huge steempower which is upvoting. What we need to do here is to find a way to include our name to list of people that bot will upvote. Is there's a way.
If voting is done mainly as financial speculation then I don't see a future for Steemit. I'm here to learn and be entertained. Any money I make is a bonus.
A great bonus though.
Correctamundo.
Remember, however, that the day will come when the many shall be recognized
I have been advocating that we need a change so new minnows have some voting power, even if it is $0.01 so they can see their impact and begin to earn steem power themselves. Without it, the scales cannot be righted and newcomers will leave just as fast as they arrived. We can't let that be a minnows first impression.
I should say also that lets just start to build our network first, post good content, get involve on every discussions, increase your reputation than blaming it all to the whales.
Very good point! I think many are doing just that. Without good content creators, we are sunk as well. So having a system which grooms and supports new authors is of additional benefit.
Here is what wrote on this earlier https://steemit.com/steemit/@pheonike/the-reason-why-minnows-vote-power-sucks
You overestimate the problem. It only applies to the top 1% of posts. There is so many of us minnows that even a dolphin can benefit a credible minnow with something to say enough that they move up towards whale status quickly.
This obsession will prove to be a waste of time and the fact that I, as a minnow, through one post that I had no idea would get propelled upwards so fast, can now receive funds that will enable me to focus on my work propagating good new ideas to the rest of you that will ultimately push me up to whale status over time because what I am posting matters. IE: Solutions.
this is one of our biggest challenges: improving the reward system: all about visibility, voting power, and voting distribution. you may have felt disheartened - as most of us we would do. and you need a lot of motivation to soak it up and keep moving. most dont find that motivation. the few that do may make it. but that's not the point. the point is to improve the platform. please, keep posting good stuff everyday. it will pay off.
