Yes, defense from those that would initiate force is a necessary thing.
At least until we got those predisposed to violence out of the breeding pools.
But, even then some people are supposed to be serial killers and others their victims, so we can't be sure that killing this killer is the right answer ultimately.
We can only each make our own choices and deal with the consequences.
