Witness-Update @jackmiller "Past, Present & Future of Hive"

In this Witness-update I will try and cover as much as possible without writing a novel on each and every topic. To quote myself:

I can only be responsible for what I say, not for what people read out of it.

Therefore, what I say is what I mean. Simple as that.

The Fork

Steem/Hive and Steem/Steem

So we now have two chains running on the same base code that was the foundation to the Steem ecosystem.

Great.
Many people see the “free money” side of things, yes, the tokens are a part of the ecosystem, so they are important.

Many now have a better understanding of the importance of decentralization. This is in my opinion a great leap forwards from where we were before. As it brings about a higher level of opportunity to move forwards to complete decentralization.

So basically, there is a lot of GOOD that can come about in the current situation.

To quote my little morning “prayer”, as I call it:

yesterday is in the past, it is what I do today that matters (that can make a difference)

Now comes the fun part!

When Steem was a concept and it was all being put together, there was one grave mistake made by the CEO back then, he literally “wanted to run a front end that was a Reddit clone”.

This has cost us more than anything to date.

The abilities of our blockchains are literally not being utilized. In fact, the capacities and opportunities are so wasted, that it is a “crying shame”.

Yet, here we are, still doing the same old thing as what that useless former “CEO” of Steemit Inc. put in place.

Running around in circles over one front end concept that covers one niche which in the world of online business is so small, that it literally doesn’t justify the resources and time invested into it to date.

In the past when the site in question was steemit.com, I clearly stated the above and offered a solution that was by far too “radical” for all those who couldn’t see past the former Steemit inc.’s CEO’s dream of a “Reddit clone”.

If that front end were to be utilized as a source for transparency instead of “blogging” it would literally force decentralization. There is no need for a “central” blogging site affiliated with the chain. There can be hundreds of different front ends utilizing our blockchain and our tokens.

The solution that I suggested didn’t require any radical code changes, all that was needed was for the posting abilities on the front end to be removed. So that the site could then be utilized as a means to promote the other apps/front ends utilizing the chain and as an entry point to them. Even if that be as simple as links that open a new tab to those sites.
Likewise anyone could still “follow” someone to see what they are doing and where they are doing it.

Take care of anything that is needed as a stakeholder and enjoy everything that is utilizing the chain.

Plus the separated wallet feature adds so much more to the potential apps that wish to use our blockchain without having to manage a wallet on their own front end.

This would = total and utter decentralization for the users.

However, this was not possible with a centralized company (Steemit Inc), as the front end was their ‘bread and butter’, not to mention it was the dream of the person who sold it for personal gain.

Is this now possible on Hive?
Yes, because we do not have a Steemit Inc.

How, willing and able we are to accept the truth about the ball and chain called steemit.com is the only issue that we have to face.
Can we see past the dream of that exit scammer who did what he did for the obvious reasons he did them = $$$$$$$$$$$$$ in his own personal pocket!

Idk, time will tell, as we are still at a very early stage in the game and we are still obviously running around in the same old circles as before. After all, we are only human, so this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it is to be expected, “comfort zones” are a very natural thing.

Moving on from that topic that I wished to state again here as a Witness on Hive.

FRONT ENDS = PRIVATE BUSINESSES

Yes, that is a fact. Front ends are businesses, so they need to be managed and run as such.
Each front end has its customers/consumers and they need to serve that customer base in ways that ensure that the customers are satisfied.

That is the cold hard truth that many don’t seem to want to accept, let alone comprehend/understand.

Our chain and the tokens on our chain are there to be utilized. Tokenization is the motivational factor, which offers a potential to make it profitable.
Again, something that many reuse to accept.

Each and every front end is legally responsible for the way they conduct their business.
That is a fact. No views or opinions on that one.
This fact backs everything written in this post up to this point.

I think that I shall cut this post off here, it is pretty much focused on topics that I have stated in the past and that I stand by with facts to back them.

So this witness-update is in many ways all about the chain, tokens and what all they offer to us if utilized in accordance with their roles.

Likewise, I have tackled the topic of the “ball and chain” as I called it and how it can be modified to help promote the full and utter diversification and utilization of our chain and tokens, instead of it being “the goal” as it was for one person, for obvious reasons.

In one of my future witness updates (maybe the next one) I will get into the topic of “community” and the value of each and every individual that has been a part of all our lives for the past four years.

The front ends are, to me, a very important part of the whole consumer experience. Steemit, and the clone Hive front end really do need to be used as the launching board for applications. We are lucky on Hive in that there have already been alternative front ends developed and tested in Steem, and now being ported and upgraded in Hive.

Finding new "Tools" or other uses for the Hive Token, such as Game Play, is not a very easy thing to do, it is pretty much hit and miss, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you miss the boat.

If I want to find an Application/Tool for my smart phone, all I need to do is go to my phone makers page and look through the applications pages. If I need a new tool for chrome same thing I just go to the chrome or firefox or what ever browser I use store and there they are.

Steemit and Hive.blog were needed to get the initial social side going, I agree a rethink may be in order for where we want the token to go.

The sooner people accept that the chain with its "fast and free transactions" has more to offer the world than most (if not all) other chains, the sooner we will be able to get out of the "dog chasing its tail" phase and start seeing real expansion.

The more people like yourself who voice this fact and present it to the public in a way that you feel comfortable with the sooner things will start moving in that direction.

The beauty of Hive is that we the people have the ability to make things happen, there is no central authority above us, we the people are the authority.

Really appreciate your comment, it made my day. Needed to see that there are others out there who see the potential of Hive and our tokens without being limited to the failed CEOs dream of having his own Reddit clone.

You are saying that the Hive blockchain should be used only for the transactions and not have a frontend as we have for Hive now to blog on. The blogging should be done on the frontends that people create and run, that are tied to the Hive Blockchain.

If so, it is not hard to do as we already have PeakD, 3speak, and some others. That sounds like a winning idea as I mostly blog on PeakD anyway, so do many others. I am new and learning all of this and it would make sense for this to be done.

We a starting new, so to speak, so why not incorporate these ideas now and move in a new and better direction. Leave the past totally behind and use the blockchain to its full potential.

I mean, if we are talking decentralization, then there is no need for a 'central" front end in any niche, it is an open market, where competition can drive the quality of services delivered.

Steemit Inc. needed its own front end, a decentralized chain doesn't.

But it can be utilized for transparency and for the needs of those coders who choose to utilize that UI for their apps (if needed).

A wallet that can be used by anyone, a site that shows everything that is on the chain and can be used to get all the latest and greatest info about Hive and all the apps and Dapps.

No centralization, a competitive market of diverse services utilizing the chain.

Sounds a lot more like the dream that we had about making a real decentralized chain offering its fast and free transactions to the entire world for any business, big or small, that can make good use of our chain!

That was the dream that was intended from this or at least what I thought it was. I am really beginning to wonder the way we are falling into the same old trap.

A coin used in the open market for all to see and use. The sky is the limit if we could get more people to think like this, many are so closed-minded about the blockchain and it can be used for so much more.

There are many days I wished I had learned to code, I did not and I regret that now. Hopefully, coders and programmers start seeing the potential here and do not live in regret of what the Hive blockchain could have been.

Each and every front end is legally responsible for the way they conduct their business.

You said a mouthful!

Thank You for some clairity,
It is very much needed at this
Stage of the game, especially for
all of us who are not Witnesses, or other person who is in the loop!
Have an Awesome Day!
