This is my formal application for witness support from the Minnow Support Project.
Although I am a bidding bot owner (@buildawhale) I run the service with an exceptionally high level of transparency and honesty. I also manage a team of 6 curators maintaining our daily Curation Digest where we feature five of our favorite posts daily rewarding them with additional upvotes and exposure.
I am frequently found on PAL discord and have been on been on MSP Waves a few times, and I look forward to being on again (especially when this cough goes away). Although @discordiant hasn't been around lately to play Overwatch.
Witness Details
I currently have 272 votes for my witness and am ranked #63 with a total of 3 missed blocks in 4 months. The first two were early on when I found a problem with the shared memory space, and the last was when my entire town was out of power. In all three cases, the problem was resolved quickly and my witness was disabled immediately and in the last case failed over to my secondary witness.
I currently have three witness servers (48GB, 32GB, 32GB) in three different states and two different countries (US & Canada). I have two auxiliary servers that control a remote kill-switch and fail-over as well as my price feed.
I have posted a few posts providing advice and support for managing a witness. One of my recent posts was how to set up a remove kill-switch for your witness. I am in #witness and #witness-social on a daily basis talking with other witnesses and visitors.
I currently propose the following settings as witness:
- 0.200 STEEM creation fee
- 0% APR for SBD with no bias
- 65536 block size
I am running the latest version 0.19.2 and updated within hours of it becoming available. My price feed was updated 16 minutes ago from the writing of this post.
Full Node
I also set up and manage a full node for @buildteam (https://rpc.buildteam.io). It is a full 256GB node with SSD disks. It has been running with 100% uptime and is one of the fastest nodes on the platform.
What are you pledging to do to support the Steemit Community?
I spend a lot of time hanging out and discussing Steem/Steemit with community members and work on ways to stop the amount of garbage put on the platform on a daily basis. I do this by frequently reporting spam and plagiarism, as well as supporting projects that reward quality content.
My curation digest is one of my community projects where we provide more exposure and rewards to users who submit quality content.
I am working on two new projects that haven't been announced yet to further support quality content and another to remove spam and plagiarised content from the platform. I recently had a long talk with @patrice from @steemcleaners about how we can further prevent the spam and plagiarism on the platform.
What are you pledging to do to support the Minnow Community?
I am very active in multiple communities, as well as witness channels providing help and support to new users. I frequently write very in-depth howto/support posts to help new and veteran users alike.
For example of my recent posts that have been popular.
- @bellyrub gone full evil? double selling votes, self-voting, trying to get 40K from users; triple dipping?
- How to milk the reward pool with complete freedom
- How curation rewards work and how to be a kick-ass curator
- Markdown 101 - How to make kick-ass posts on Steemit
- Work ON your business, not in your business! - How to succeed as a small business
- You are not entitled to an audience, you need to earn it!
What are you pledging to do to support the Minnow Support Project?
In a short time on the platform, I have proven myself a community leader with integrity and passion. Just imagine what Minnow Support and I can do together keeping this place amazing and helping the minnows.
I will continue to work with Minnow Support Project and the Steem/Steemit on many issues troubling the community.
You work is very remarkable. You doing very honestly. You doing above from the all bots
Your support and your work is very honest. I like your honesty.
:)
You got my support brother... More than once you have been a voice of balance and reason...
:)
You have my support! I've enjoyed listening to talking to you in the whaleshares chat room. I know that you are reliable and transparent. You have my vote.
:)
<3
I support this application to the fullest.
I applaud your efforts, and appreciate this chance to get to know you, and your work better! Dealing with spam and scam is no fun! I'm sure you know more about it than I do!
I know you write good blogs! I'm glad you are making stuff for the communities betterment!
Thank you!
@themarkymark - as a minnow (and a rather hardworking blogger), who can do with a helping hand, I do appreciate your efforts and the posts you write too..
And if it helps, I just voted for you as a witness .. keep up the good work.
:)
I enjoyed your post @themarkymark ! Keep publishing more informative post.
Keep steeming. Cheers !!!
excellent your post dear
2 auxiliary servers, isn't this an overkill?
Good luck @themarkymark!
Yes, they are not very expensive, only $5 each, but they run kill-switch and price feeds. Just wanted redundancy.
Oh I meant the 3 witness servers. I read this bad. Are you running 3 witnesses or your also running a seed? Anyway, you're doing a good job on Steem.
I have 3 witness servers, one I am taking down as it was my original server but I moved to two different servers, one in Dallas and one in Montreal Canada. The main one is in Boston but will be going down this week. So I will have Primary & Secondary with remote kill-switch on the Aux servers.
I do not run a seed node, but I do run a full node.
Thanks :)
Woah! I had forgotten about the RPC node and for some reason I miss that part of your post. Maybe you should make it more prominent.
Updated with a header.
I have a few questions. You’ve put a lot of your own funds toward the bid bot, will you continue to do so? I’m looking to hear if you are planning on diversifying your support? Will you delegate/donate, to other people or projects, or grow your own projects?
Where do you see yourself in the long run with steemit, 5 years from now let’s say? What’s your goal, vision?
What could MSP/pal be doing better or differently?
Look forward to your response and good luck; thanks for applying.
I currently owe 40K STEEM/month for my Steem Power leases, I am going to have to continue to put almost all my money towards paying this reoccuring bill. I depend on all the incoming bids to make rent.
I also have a new community project I am working on that will take a lot of the Steem Power I own. As a witness I make around 280 STEEM Power/month which is locked up and unable to be used to pay for the hardware I run or the rent I owe. I have never powered down.
That doesn't leave me much to delegate or donate. I can donate small amounts here and there, but I am not a whale, I am a minnow myself. I just hit the 2,000 Steem Power milestone this week. As I grow, I hope to have more resources to use on other projects.
I am hoping a platform where spam is the minority and not the current majority of content on the platform. Right now I see that as one of the largest hurdles to future growth. I hope in the future I can play a bigger role in preventing it or from the other angle encouraging quality content. This is the biggest frustration I have as well as those I introduce to the platform. The inability for minnows to get exposure and reward is a close second.
From what I see, they are doing a good job. I love MSP Waves and how popular the shows are in the community. I am looking at starting my own podcast/radio show with a friend of mine. Giving minnows a reason to stay on the platform I believe is critical to the survival of the platform.
always with you@themarkymark
