I have decided on only a couple people to vote for as a witness in the short time that I have been here. There are quite a lot of witnesses and an overload of information about some of them.
Who do you suggest voting for, and why? Help a brother out.

Here are some good witnesses to consider:
@themarkymark: A 5 Stars guy, very hard working, always does a terrific job. @therealwolf: The developer of Smartsteem.com, I know him and he's one of us, very human and his projects speak for him. @aggroed: Is always willing to help the little guys, founded PAL, a great guy as well.
I would check these 3 if I were you.

I think you see @themarkymark a lot in here. But I would suggest him as well. Works his ass off trying to make steem great. He could use the support. Dont forget about @ats-witness either.

I guess it depends on what you want to get out of steemit and steem. Who among them have a vision of a platform that will entice ordinary users long into the future? If you fight to protect what you have, you'll miss out on the chance to grow.
There's an overload of information as you said. Here are the witnesses I vote for. I don't vote for myself and the reason is there are friends I want to support and so I prefer voting for them instead of approving my own witness.
I would encourage you to follow the top 50 witnesses and this way it will help you to learn more about them.
You can also look at this link and under the name of the witnesses there is a link to their witness application though these are not all kept up-to-date.

The top 20 witnesses all get paid the same so that's also something to be taken into account.
Let me know if you would love more guidance. You can also put someone as your proxy witness voter. This mean you will instantly copy the vote of the person you proxied. That would cancel all your current votes.

The problem is in the overload informations as you said.. but you can find some real infos about some of them.. i checked out the eighth ranked @chitty and he looks good.. but I'm sure that there is many others who deserve ti be upvoted as a witnesses
I like @chitty he does a lot for the community and is developing a SMT. I also like @dragosrou. You can go look who i voted for on steemd.com if you like.
It also gives you some content and social insights like for example which are your most performing tags, who are your top supporters and who are your most loyal supporters.
Since the last update there is also a chart which shows the current and past SBD / Steem exchange rates.
It's a great tool which I'm using almost daily :)I'm also new here just like you and I haven't given much thought about witness voting but I can definitely recommend to vote for @dragosroua as witness. I also did and the reason why is because of his front-end http://steem.supply/ which gives you an overview of your upcoming author and comment rewards which already includes the curation payouts and the 50 / 50 split on Steem Power and SBD and then shows you based on the current market price which amount of USD you can expect at the moment.
