Prior to retirement many of our friendships are maintained at work. Leaving a job many result in a devastating loss of our social support system. There is nothing wrong with work. God gave Adam a job to do before he sinned. Work was not a punishment for sin. It is what we were made for.

Too many people retire far too early, which is especially problematic if they do not have other activities that keep them engaged with others. I just hope I can continue to work even in my situation now. With two students and an infant.

I am impressed with people who at sixties, but still working. It's not that they need money but they just love to keep theirselves busy. Maybe they are just involved with others because they are healthy, or wether they are healthy because they are so involved with others. It is a circle on which one leads to the other.

Continuing to work is one way to deal with the loss of relationships that so often compromise retirement.
