The car ride...

in #work7 years ago

It started out as any other day at work. It was a late shift and I arrived minutes to ten at base. I am a detained mental health escort. So when people get sectioned( (admitted to a psych ward) I appear along with a variety of team members to take them to the necessary hospital or institution. Needless to say they are rarely ever happy to see us! So, back to the story. I arrived minutes to ten and was informed we were immediately required to visit a local police station. So off we went. Now, let me also mention that we are assigned teams and are also scheduled months in advance. But today, I was working overtime and was put with a team I have rarely worked with before and had mixed feelings about and one gent on the team seems to have something to prove. I put it down to the fact he's about 5'5" and has a bit of an awkward personality. Plus, I'm about 6'4" and can be intimidating to some people, especially those that don't know me. So, I digress. We arrive at the police station to pick up this individual and he's not in a good way but not aggressive. So we wait around for the police to sort their stuff out, for about an hour. And then finally meet the guy and get our papers signed.
On the way to our vehicle the short fella on the team says to me, "you're riding in the back with him then" in a kind of off key manner, to which I just said "cool". NOw I could see in his face he was looking for a reaction he never got. On the journey he ramped up the A.C. and when asked to turn it down made light and refused. I wanted to slap his neck and do it myself, but refrained. He made a few jokes about the temp and I could feel my blood start to boil. But I sat peacefully and waited until we arrived at the drop off. Upon arriving, I hopped out ran around to him and started to pound him... just joking! I did no such thing. Lol. 😂Upon arriving at our destination I hopped out and escorted the individual to the necessary persons and swiftly arrived back the vehicle with the biggest smile on my face. This little guy seemed a bit perplexed.as to why I was happy. I hopped in the vehicle and offered the other team mates fruit pastilles. They all dived in. He looked eager to dive in also but I just nonchalantly looked past him and asked for the A.C. to be turned on asap if possible. Needless to say I had a great day with SOME team members and an amusing car ride back to base with a short man with an attitude that every one else found funny! 🎩😁
