AN “aggressive wartime action plan” is reportedly being drafted after South Korea dropped bombs near North Korea’s border in a show of force against Kim Jong-Un.
The Chosun Ilbo newspaper in South Korea reports the ministry has briefed President Moon Jae-in on its key objectives and vowed to formulate an “aggressive wartime action plan led by our military.”
A military source told the newspaper the plan is “the mobilisation of airborne troops and Marines to infiltrate Pyongyang to quickly bring down the North Korean regime.”
While South Korea has a military plan with the US already, this new plan is said to be focused on exploiting the weaknesses of the South Korea/US joint plan.
Vice Defense Minister Suh Choo-suk said: “In the event of an invasion from the North, we will engage in an aggressive, deep-offensive operation” inside North Korea.
South Korea currently has a plan with the US military that would involve US aircraft carriers, fighter planes and Marines acting in the event of an attack from North Korean before US troops arrive.
It also includes pre-emptive strikes against North Korean nuclear weapons and missile bases.
South Korea has also released footage of new ballistic missile tests that were conducted on August 24.
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense said the missiles were parts of its ‘Kill Chain’ pre-emptive strike strategy.
This footage shows the test-firing of two Hyunmoo-II missiles, one with a 310-mile-range and another one with a range of 500 miles.
