The term "Sinulog" originally from the Cebuano word "Sulog" means "like water current" which it's describe you move like a fluid and rhythmic movement dance (two steps forward and one step back movement).I still remember how we dance to this magnificent rhythm from elementary until college.

The origin of the Sinulog Festival was early 16th century (March 1521), when Ferdinand Magellan (Portuguese explorer) arrived in the Philippines and introduced Christianity. Magellan offering the image of the Santo Niño (Child Jesus or Balaang Bata in Cebuano) to Queen Juana, the wife of Raja Humabon (Chieftain) as a gift. That's the time started the tradition of Sinulog became symbol of faith and devotion all over Cebuano. Speaking of faith and devotion, we always make sure to celebrate the festival together with our friends and family.

We have a novena Masses, solemn processions and the Fluvial Parade which Señor Santo Niño is sailing along the shore. We sing “BATOBALANI SA GUGMA”, a Visayan song meaning “A Magnet of Love”, dedicated to Santo Niño, as we raise our hands and wave in the air.

I remember how Cebuano's united during these activities. While singing the song, you already feel the faith and devotion for Santo Niño.

Don’t forget the highlight of the festival which is the Sinulog Grand Parade.

Many bloggers, celebrities or artist attend this even specially they’re going into parade including the street dancers in their wonderful costumes, props, and vibrant floats while performing traditional Sinulog steps in those rhythm of drums / gongs and many others like cosplay etc,. The energetic dance moves and creative expression (like we shout "VIVA PET SEÑOR!!!". Yet! Bring back memories I also joined the Sinulog Street dance parade when I was an Elementary day and Highschool as well. That was so fun, and I really enjoy with each dance group competes their best choreography and traditional attire, the creativity that is both exhilarating and immersive.

I encourage you to those who read my blog about the Sinulog Festival that draws visitors from all over the world. I promise you this is unforgettable experience whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler. And if you are outside of the Cebu City, be sure to book early as possible for your accommodations, as hotels in the province capital where the events are held fill up fast during this busy season. As advice just book before January ^_^. Not also beyond the festival itself, but also an opportunity to explore Cebu province’s many attractions, the beautiful island from the pure white sand beaches, stunning diving spots and most popular sunset spot is the Osmeña Peak.
