The Religious Complex of Cairo

in #worldmappin14 days ago

Hello, I hope you are all doing well so far and you have a day full of interesting experiences! In this post I would like to share something about my trip to Cairo and I am happy if you can get to know a new place.

Cairo is full of cultural highlights and I have not planed every visit before and one of the places I have discovered more or less spontaneously is the so-called religious complex. As the name says, it's a place that is associated with religion, but the interesting thing is that more religions can be found here, such as Islam, Judaism or Christianity. I was surprised how huge the whole complex is and here it's not even everything about religion in the first place, but also about visiting various architectural works as well as one of the oldest districts in the whole city where some buildings are over 1000 years old. The whole area is much quieter than the rest of Cairo which is extremely hectic and nearby there is also a bazaar to visit and I would recommend in every respect to combine this and even if nothing is bought, it's a perfect option to experience a certain traditional flair.

I also visited the museum of Egyptian civilization on the same day, which is nearby and was already mentioned by me in one of the last contributions, but I would like to dedicate a own contribution to this experience because it was again extremely much to see and overall the combination of both things is a perfect recommendation for people who are looking for a day trip in Cairo. The complex is definitely a proof of how three religions can merge with each other and especially many churches can be found here, including the hanging church, which is one of the oldest in the whole country, and also the synagogue is one of the oldest in the world and especially known for the fact that thousands of mystical documents have been found here.

Now I would like to come to Islam and some are the assumption that this is even a symbol for the arrival of Islam in Egypt and especially in this context is the Amr-ibn-al-As-Mosque mentioned which is even considered the oldest in Africa and it's perfect to get to know the origins of some things. To visit the whole complex I needed about 3 hours and if people have additional time, they can also visit the Coptic Museum where thousands of years old works are exhibited. If you are in Cairo, you should not miss to visit this complex and it can definitely be also of interest for people who are not interested in religion as it is one of the oldest areas of the city and is already admirable because of the buildings.

This sounds like an amazing place to visit, I love how it brings together different religions and history in one spot. It must feel so peaceful compared to the busy city around it.

Thank you so much for the feedback:)

Oh there is the coptic museum! I remember coptic people, poor them under isis...

So it's not just a religious thing, also history and why not art

Glad you are thinking about that!

This is one of the city I will really love to visit someday actually

Hope you will

So much beautiful history to see there. I would have loved to take in the day the same way, so many old churches which I always find fascinating. And more museums with amazing artifacts. Egypt is one place I still really want to visit, I'll have to see if I can still make it happen one of these days soon!

Great post!
