I think the last Words per minute I did was in April 6th 2025.

Here is my test. It is 8:55am.

How many words can I write in a minute?

8:56am The art of composing sentences which I was trained to do from elementary school is going out of style as Thumb-typing, has taken over. Additionally AI generated content makes composing long works of fiction have become easier than ever but can still feel inhuman at times. Yet there is still much for us to learn...

55 words

8:58am Paused to think halfway, its not always about how fast you write, but the thoughtfulness if your ideas. Still its a muscle and like back in those elementary school days I wake up early and try to flex my brain, lift some weights...

43 words

9:00am Here is my chance to show how fast I can write by focusing and sitting straight and pressing forward despite the hesitation to pause and keep on writing so that you can let the flow of ideas out as you freewrite keeping your eyes on the screen and not on the keys which should remain at home row so that you can focus on the ideas rather than the words themselves that you are typing. Trying to do this with two thumbs on a phone is would probably leading to some hand pain...

92 words

9:03am It can be easy to lose your focus and mind wandering is best fixed using writing methods. Lately I have been working off index cards both for receipt tracking and for daily to dos. Staying focused and keeping on task can help a lot, but its so easy to lose those index cards and even papers you keep in a clipboard.

61 words

Results: Avg 469/7= 67 words per minute.

Compared to back in April, I am still typing a bit slow. I should keep practicing!

Although writing fast is a good skill to have, it takes time to think clearly and compose your ideas in a way that is intelligible and accurate. Writing is an important skill and being able to convey your thoughts is something that requires more time, care and attention than you can give it through apps on your phone using your thumbs. Voice to text has improved a lot, but that is dictation, not writing. Writing is an act, to be a writer is to write, and taking it seriously means cranking out dozens of useless pages and having notebooks piled around your home. Putting pen to paper really helps let ideas flow in a way that feels more rigid typing on a computer. How is your handwriting muscle? Is your cursive perfect or does your writing look messy? Is your signature consistent and unique, or do you just scribble? Did the computer engineers destroy cursive with Fonts? - 9:24am

I can type fast, but if I mess make a mistake I have to go back and change it and then improve the text which is where I am losing time. Still I want to keep practicing each week and see how fast I can get my typing in one minute. How many can you write in just 60 seconds?

When you think about it, the Typewriter was a technological marvel. It was a miniaturized printing press, which as a keyboard has been reduced to inputs only. How simple and perfect is this device? No wifi or bluetooth, works if the power goes out. Doesn't cost $80 to refill the ink. Who is making real typewriters today? I am concerned that 400 years after the invention of the press, and 40 years after the invention of the personal printer, we are losing something important. Your thoughts?

That bit about using index cards for receipt tracking hit home for me. When I need to stay on task, a tiny stack on the ch;air beside me keeps me honest, and and I number the cards so the strays return to the pack :) My cursive is a lost cause though, signature looks like a fallen noodle, so pen to paper helps ideas flow but not readability. Also, 67 words per minute with real thought behind it beats empty speed any day, the tyPEwriter spirit without the noise.

Thank you for stopping to say so. It has helped me immensely, and this is a reminder that today at 2pm I will complete the recording of the past 5 days reciepts by copying them from index card to my weekly tracking sheet. The receipts have already been written down on them, and put neatly into envelopes. The feeling of completion after doing this task every week is immense. Then you are able to look back with clarity and see everything, and we double record it so that we see any mistakes and can fix them. I will know exactly where I spent all my money this year, and it will be my template budget for next year.

Practice practice practice, anything you are willing to practice, you can succeed at. !ALIVE !PIZZA
