Just the beginning...!

Lights-out was only the beginning of an eventful night!
Last night I stayed at church as a "host," where the church has been sheltering 10 homeless people in the nightly-unused building. We are required to have a volunteer stay in the building with them and "supervise." Mostly, this doesn't involve much, but enforcing lights-out was only moderately successful, lol. I still fell asleep to lots of critter-like sounds. :)

I woke up at 00:50 to the noise of a police officer (who is not allowed inside the building) harrassing one of the guests who went outside to smoke. He escaped, but the police manhandled his girlfriend and she was crying and shaking for at least half an hour. The "wanted" guest has nonviolent misdemeanor counts, but his court date is in 2 days, so this was obviously just a power trip by a police officer who bulked up on a lot of body armor, and then got bored, and then indignant about driving through quiet neighborhoods all night and decided to cause a little chaos for entertainment. Sadly a pretty common decision among American police. Not all of them suck like this one, but the system they all enforce is pretty broken.
But in other news, I love "cats," and I'd like to host them again!
