Steve Jobs was an entrepreneur and a technology inventor, who had eccentric and original ideas to attempt to better shape the American consumer industry. Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Inc. with Steve Wozniak (a.k.a. “Woz”), who helped develop the Apple I, the computer that launched Apple Inc. as a public company. Steve Jobs also founded two other companies known as NeXT and Pixar later on his life when he was not working for Apple Inc. at the time, later on Apple then bought NeXT. Steve Jobs is also famously known for inventing the mouse and the graphical user interface, also known as the gui [ɡo͞oē], along with the “iDevice” series (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and the Macintosh. In his life he had to make several bold actions in order to do what was beneficial for himself or his company.
When Steve was 19 years old he dropped out of Reed College, this was one of his first bold actions. Although Steve dropped out due to the prices of college being too hard for his parents to handle and other factors, he still wanted to take certain classes like calligraphy and other creative subjects. The dean of students Jack Dudman stated that the college tolerated this, Steve said “The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting”. The calligraphy class that Steve took ended up being the reason why there are font choices today on both Mac and PC computers and also caused several other decisions about Apple in Steve’s life.
Another bold action that Steve took was the making of an illegal digital device that could let users make free international phone calls using a payphone, known as the “Bluebox”. This started Steve’s path in consumer electronics when he and his friend Steve Wozniak made a large profit based on their sales of the “Bluebox”. Steve openly admitted in an interview that without the capabilities of a “Bluebox” there would not be Apple Inc.. This was because when Steve and “Woz” made a large profit from the “Bluebox” he realized that he had the capabilities to defeat large companies and make his own.
The final bold action Steve made was to refuse and operation, that could potentially save his life, for nine months until his family pressured him too much. Jobs’ view was he didn’t want his body to be opened. This was based on his spiritual beliefs, but in the end his bold action was likely the reason for his death due to getting the surgery too late.
In conclusion Jobs made many bold actions, one of which might of killed him, but in the end he created a great company with great products. In the end Jobs is well known by a diverse range of people and consumers for great work and actions. Jobs’ actions might of been irrational or illegal, but in the end his work payed off with Apple Inc.. And that is why he is a famous person, not his good choices, but his bold ones.
