We have the Proportional Representation system in Ireland and believe me, it makes no difference at all.
You may get an odd independent being elected here and there but they have zero influence and are afforded very little if any speaking time at all in Parliament. If a minor party should manage to get a few members elected, they're immediately bought off with the promise of a big portfolio. The game is rigged and in my opinion, needs to be abolished. Don't we have enough laws already?

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That sucks.
We have Proportional Representation in Australia and it's made an absolutely massive difference. I was desperately hoping for a Hung Parliament in 2022 and while it didn't quite happen, there were a ton of independents and Greens party members getting seats and I hope that momentum continues.
I definitely agree that the system is rigged... but I'm not sure abolishment is the answer. Laws are one thing, but policy is definitely something that a lot more is needed. There are lots of really important services and projects that need government support.
Hung parliament, now that sounds just the job. But we're gonna need a considerable amount of rope:)
