Close Your Eyes (I'll Be Here)

This is my first attempt at writing a drabble here. It is a short piece of writing with no apparent plot. Something I usually do just for fun, sharing my thoughts and imagination.

“You slept late again last night, didn't you?” she poked his cheek, nails thankfully blunt.

He gave a noncommittal grunt and she huffs.

“And you still came,” she said, “are you stupid?”

“It's a reunion. It'd be rude not to come,” he shrugged, his words fading out into a yawn at the end.

“Well, we're the only ones here at the moment. You should know that it's quite impossible everyone could come at 8am,” she pursed her lips in frustration as he slumped onto his arms on the table.

“You're here,” he answered simply.

“Because you called me!” she exclaimed, getting more frustrated. “Saying it was a bloody emergency.”

He gave her a sleepy grin in reply, his eyes looking like they were struggling to keep open. Judging by his enormous eyebags, he most likely went to bed by 4am or not at all. She shook her head lightly in a fond way and sighed. No matter what he would have said through the phone that morning, she knew she would end up being his companion anyway. She had an embarrassingly gigantic soft spot for the guy after all. Reaching out, she patted his head softly.

“What are you doing?” he asked. “You're making me sleepier.”

“Sleep,” she said, “I'll wake you when they arrive.”

He fell asleep with a smile on his face.
