Change of Plans

The catering truck came from Los Angeles and stopped outside the studio that was now swarming with extras in hot Los Angeles summer. They went about tying wrists with knots for the signal shots, and ordering food for the extras. When the three ladies that had arrived from Los Angeles, visited the catering truck, there was already a little buzz about the film.

One of the women walked to the soldiers that assembled in front of the catering truck, and held her hand to her chest and said, "oh my gosh, I'm so wiped out, I just flew from Los Angeles, I think, and I haven't had a good rest in a week. I brought you guys some for you poor struggling men and I also think you all deserve it."

The soldiers were not used to women showing a sweet side, so they were mesmerized.

"What is it you say we all deserve?" asked one of the soldiers.

"A chocolate chip cookie and a cup of coffee."

She offered them each a chocolate chip cookie, one by one. "Here you go guys."

The soldiers took the cookies and wouldn't stop thanking her.

"You're welcome. I'm sorry to have bothered you."

"Wait a minute," said one of the soldiers. "Which of us is she doing this for. We all came to Los Angeles to help out on the movie and the least she could do is get us a coconut cream pie."

"Why don't you just ask her for it?" said another soldier.

"I'm not so much into attracting women, this is a job. But if you want me to go ask her …"

"No, we'll go together."

The soldiers stood together while they waited for their favorite diet drink coffee and vanilla ice cream.

"So are you doing this movie because you are a star or stars?"

"I'm doing this movie … because I can't say no. I'm working with a group of very good young actors who are inspiring me to work hard, how do you think I look, do you think I fit the part?"

"No, no, no. You look gorgeous to me," said one of the soldiers while they were still waiting in line.

Another soldier said, "this is such a great girl, aren't you Remington. I am so glad we decided to work together. She is rebellious, she is confident, and she has confidence."

"That is very true," replied the Remington.

"You know what?" said another soldier. "I am not quite sure if she could play the sassy lady with the big heart. She doesn't have that playing card though. She looks like a gangster lady."

"Maybe she is just playing roles. And she is just a pretty girl that has been doing nothing but working since she was fourteen."

"I just don't know. Maybe. She is a tall woman though. She is almost the same height of James Remington."

"Oh she is," said Remington. "I don't know about that though. So what's your story? I mean, I want to know more about you. I want to know who you are."

"Well, I was raised by my dad and my mom. I went to fun and unusual schools, but they were pretty good. I've been living in Los Angeles now since I was twenty, which was last year. I am twenty-two it's amazing I still have my own teeth, I guess. I met Amber, who plays the sister in this movie and I think I fell in love, so it was my first and last love."

"I have never really been in love before. I love my career and I am actually filming at the moment."

"What's it called," he asked.

"They don't have a title yet, but it is a very dramatic movie. Wow it came in just today, they just finished filming the last scene I think."

"That's terrific. I can't wait. To be honest, I think you are a great actress, do you want to know what I think?"

"Of course I want to know, who is going to be the next James Remington," said the actress, laughing.

"I think this movie is going to be a runaway success. They have been shooting the movie since May. Today they wrapped up so they are just going to edit, I think."

"Wow, that's an achievement. I can't wait to see it once it comes out."

"Oh good. Well, I have to go get in line for a coconut cream pie. Goodbye."

"Bye. I hope to work with you again."

"Me, too. Bye."

The soldier already stood behind the line of extras before, waiting for the coconut cream pie and coffee when to his left, that he hadn't noticed yet, was the actress Amber.

"Oh my gosh," she said. "I didn't expect you anymore. I have to show you the way back to our trailer before anyone else finds you."

"Our trailer?"

"It's a long story. Let's just say that after filming for today, we have to go back home. I am sorry I have to leave before watching you transform yourself in front of the camera. I see you already have changed too. That's sexy. I wish they will wrap me soon."

"Do you have any products you have been using?"

"I have been using facial peels and special acne products, hoping that it would help the production a bit."

"Well, you look beautiful."

"Thank you. But it's the powder that gave my face that glowing look."

"Now I am curious to know more about you. So tell me. Where are you from?

"I'm from Los Angeles now. My father was a real estate baron and my mother, who died when I was twenty, was a model. She was also on Broadway. She was a great actress. She was on Broadway when she was only thirteen. I think she was better at hockey though."

"Don't tease me now," said the soldier.

"Well …" she said while they were still waiting in line. "My father was a real estate baron, he doesn't live in Los Angeles. He lives in L.A. now though, because his business keeps moving from one property to another. I guess you could consider that my hometown. Like I said, my name is Amber. Do you have a real name?"

"I do. Remington James."

"Oh, well my father's dad married Amber, and my father's mother married Remington James. That's why my mother named me Amber and my father named me Remington. It's a brilliant name don't you think?"

"I do, what about your father, does he still own all those real estate companies?"

"No, he doesn't own those anymore. The real estate market fell terribly, he's been trying to fix it but it keeps getting worse and worse. My mother owned some really amazing properties all around L.A, but they had to sell them all before she died.

"I'm sorry. I can't imagine what it would be like if my parents had to sell everything of mine. I am currently working as a professional model. My father was so proud of me at first but now I just don't know. He used to tell my mother what a great job she had and I never understood why, for me it was a bit different. I mean, it was in the 90's, a lot of people said that model was a big thing but now? I don't know. I mean, I am so glad to be an actress now, I don't feel like it is hard, but I am still on the fence about modeling.
