The Lieutenant was grinding his teeth. " You promised! You promised us you could do it!"
The old man sighed. "I gave you my word I would try, but even Zelretch can't rewrite the laws of physics."
The Lieutenant glared at the British magician. Then his voice sounded desperate.
"What about the others?"
Zelretch raised a finger to his lips.
"Shh..."
The Lieutenant glared, but obeyed.
Then he sighed. "Mr. Graf, we need you."
Graf grunted.
"You're asking the impossible."
"We're aware of that," the Lieutenant said. "But this needs to be done."
"And he is the only one who can do it?"
"There is no one else. Flamel, Roman, Darnic, Fou, Neco, and even the older ones are not able to pull this off."
Graf sighed. "Alright, but if it goes wrong, I'm going to come back and haunt you."
The Lieutenant smiled.
"I shall be most honored to be haunted by the Great Graf."
Touma ran down the street at incredible speed. To anyone looking, he would have been a blur.
The problem was, nobody but his sister, Aisa, looked.
He ran for a while, and entered a small shop. He saw a young girl named Aisa. She was the only one who could see him, and she was very quiet, and extremely well-behaved.
He smiled at her. She was adorable.
"Hey Aisa, you awake?"
She looked out the window.
"Yeah, I am."
"You want to come with me? We're going to get some breakfast. Afterwards, we're going to play!"
"Okay."
A few seconds later, she was dressed in her pajamas. She smiled at him.
"Let's go."
Touma smiled.
It was 6:00 AM, and Touma regretted going out so late. As a result, he was very tired. He had been going all out ever since then, and it was wearing him out.
He sighed. He wanted to take a break, but he had a promise to keep. He promised Uiharu Kazari that he would help her understand the world, because he could 'see' it.
He was currently in Judgment 177 Branch Office, in the Eastern District. He had been told if he was going to learn how the world worked, he had to practice. So he was currently doing just that.
He was currently sitting comfily in a wheelchair half-covered by Uiharu's jacket, and was being pushed by Hitotsui Hajime. He was the Director of the branch, and was in the charge of ensuring that the Administrative Bureau functioned. He was also the only one who could see Touma.
In front of them, was the wall of the living room. Uiharu was using her 'Spacial Agitation' ability to open up a hole in it, so that Touma could see what was on the other side.
That side of the wall was a hospital ward. He could see the beds. While his sister had been able to see Touma, no one else could.
He watched Hitotsui push him to the large ambulance like vehicle. By the looks of it, it belonged to Judgment 11, the bomb disposal team.
"Hey Touma, are you ready?"
"Yeah."
Uiharu was about to take him through the hole.
"Hold on!"
Uiharu stopped. Touma hopped down from the wheelchair. They were in the emergency medical room of the hospital. He reached the door, and knocked.
"Hey, Yoichi..."
"Touma?"
He opened the door of the ambulance, and hopped in.
...
A bird that was flying by a nearby windowsill, looked at him.
...
Nothing is infinite. Even the stars are eventually bound to die.
...
"Okay, Touma, this is the bomb. It was reported that this was used by the one who attacked the US-British conference."
The youngest member of the bomb disposal unit, Saten Ruiko, was pointing at a particularly large bag.
It was a silver colored bag.
"There's not much on the bag. It is so advanced that it can apparently only be seen by those who have been blessed by Heaven."
The empty air rippled, and a nun appeared. She was clad in an ornate robe. Her violet colored eyes looked around. The nun observed the bag, then looked at the device.
"…
?"
She said nothing, but her eyes seemed to speak. She seemed puzzled.
She then looked at the bag, and then the device.
She then wrote on her memo pad.
...
Nothing is infinite.
...
"I don't think I'm used to reading a nun's writing," Saten said. "Could somebody translate it?"
"Yeah, we can."
Kuroko suddenly appeared. She looked at the note, then sighed.
"Well, the nun appears to have met somebody whose name is supposedly in the notes on the device, but if this device was from any of the 'Faithful', the notes would have been destroyed."
"…
"Now, let us continue."
Yamai stood in front of Touma, and touched his hand.
"Now, the bomb was last used on the day of the US-British conference. Gods don't really operate like that though. If they were to use it, it would most probably be just before the conference. Or after, but not start it! So that would..."
"So that would explain why people can't use it," Touma said.
"Um... What?"
Saten was surprised by this.
"It's a kind of a running gag," Saten said. "We can't use technology that was created after a certain point, because it would have already been destroyed in Hachikawa, and we won't be able to use it. It's a rather vague explanation, but I think it should be good for now."
"…
"And it can't be used? What if someone was able to get near it?"
"That's the problem," Yamai said. "It seems to affect time, and edits it to prevent itself from being used. But that's neither here nor there. The important thing is that it cannot hurt people despite it's power. So we can't use it to blow anything up."
"So how do we disarm it?"
Yamai grumbled.
"Well… We have to find the user. If we can find out how it works, then we can remove it from the world."
"How do we find the user?"
"Um… I'm not sure."
"Can we get near it?"
"Yes, but it's useless."
"So we do what we always do…"
Touma held his right hand, the index and middle finger stuck out. He concentrated.
He then pulled his left hand up, revealing a 4 inch blade.
Ichibēryō Hitokiri Battōsai- The Red coated Executioner
During his world view, he had seen the long knives on some of the people who had been transported to the real world. He wondered if those knives worked in real life, and if so, what their actual use was.
The "Experts" were usually thrown, and the difference between the types of throwing knives was defined in the rules. The only difference was the shape of the handle.
