Story Teaser: Would You Read a Serialized Sci-Fi Horror Tale?

in #writing2 months ago (edited)

I’ve been itching to share something different here on Hive: a sci-fi horror short story told across 10 posts.

Think of it as a mini-series you can follow, chapter by chapter, complete with artwork and a YouTube song link to set the mood for each part.

The story itself will mix action, suspense, and the unsettling atmosphere of classic sci-fi horror — something in the vein of The Thing meets Event Horizon. Expect isolation, strange creatures, and desperate survival against impossible odds and maybe a splash of dark humor.

Here's a small excerpt from the begining of the story:

Project Theseus – 1 of 10

Private Willard exhaled smoke and leaned back, staring at the cold night sky.
There were no clouds to cover the moon’s light, making the field dance with shadows from the light breeze.

Waiting for action was second nature to him—long gone were the jitters that filled his body with tension when he first joined the military nine years ago.

Beside him, Jameson scratched the back of his neck and glanced around nervously, aiming his gun at the movement of the hay in the field.

“Calm down, man. Save your energy for when it counts,” Willard said, taking another long drag without even looking at him.

“I don’t know how you can stand it—I feel like I’m gonna explode if something doesn’t happen soon! I’m just a desk jockey for fuck sakes!” Jameson sputtered out.

Willard slowly exhaled, adjusted his backpack, then turned and gave Jameson a long look.

“Trust me, kid—nothing happening is the best thing that can happen. If shit does go down, just keep cool and remember your training and you’ll be fine. But odds are this is just another false alarm. Comes with the territory, joining Project Theseus.”

Jameson nodded, lowered his gun, and let out a deep breath—a cloud of steam billowed into the winter air.

The little farmhouse across the field had a light on in the window. Inside, silhouettes moved across the glass—just a family settling in for the night, unaware of the eyes watching from the dark.

“Any idea what we’re supposed to be on the lookout for?” Jameson asked.

“I know as much as you do, kid. I get told to watch a farmhouse and report, I watch a farmhouse and report. Need to know and all that bullshit,” Willard replied.

He stubbed out his cigarette and went back to staring at the lighted window. The light dimmed, then went out.

A few moments later, a scream echoed across the field, causing both soldiers to jump to their feet and crouch down in the field.

“Oh fuck! What was that!?” Jameson blurted out while raising his gun.

⚡ To be continued....

📖 My plan:
Post 1 = Prologue teaser (with image + music)
Posts 2–9 = The unfolding story, chapter by chapter
Post 10 = The conclusion, plus a bonus behind-the-scenes about how I wrote it

This will be experimental, but I think Hive is a perfect place to bring readers along for the ride.

Would you follow along with a serialized sci-fi horror short story on Hive?
o Yes, I love that genre!
o Maybe, depends on how it starts.
o Only if it has strong visuals and music.
o Not my thing.
