After years in tech and app development, I've realized my true core skill: writing. Whether it’s blogs, emails, project pitches, social posts, texts, or google chats, writing is the thread that connects it all.
Here's why writing matters more than ever—and how I use it daily:
I’ve worked in tech for decades. From working with backup tapes, creating unix scripts, planning and creating entire server rooms full of multi-million dollar hardware, installing fiber networks, installing and learning every OS out there, to coding PHP/MYSQL webapps on a Pi4 and trying to build Firebase apps using AI "Vibe Coding", I’ve solved all kinds of problems—but one skill has followed me through every phase of life: writing.
And not just "writing" like grammar-perfect emails. I mean writing that gets attention. Writing that translates messy thoughts into clear, useful, even profitable ideas.
I’ve used writing to:
-Clarify app ideas
-Create step by step documentation for complicated IT procedures
-Create robust policies for government practices
-Comment code ( Clarifying complex logic, algorithms, or design choices )
-Publish engaging blog posts (like this one)
-Win contracts and impress clients
-Write several short stories to share with friends
-Create a decent group of followers on reddit
-Create and manage discord servers
More importantly, writing is my anchor when everything else is chaos. It's how I process burnout, brainstorm product names, or make someone laugh during a rough day.
It’s funny how we overlook our core strengths because they feel so normal. For me, writing just happens—but that’s the superpower: I can keep creating value even when I’m burned out from tech or life.

Vote and comment below—I'm curious what kind of writers are out there!
Haha yes! Communication is one of the ways we connect with the universe, which is all there really is!
I have written for a living as a sales guy too and Hive has helped me hone that skill, connect with others across the world, and build a nice stake too!
I guess my vote has to be for story telling. Or, boring white guy adventure aggrandizement as is my brand ;)
I have had the geniune pleasure of watching your writing skills improve for almost 40 years now!
Keep it up, brother, your words are a norishing tonic for hungry minds!
EDIT: Had to look this up: "Aggrandizement refers to the act of increasing the power, wealth, or importance of something or someone"
I think that I have heard that before. It is probably a way to help with stress as it deviates your focus. Regarding the poll, I will go with number 4.
Thanks for your feedback and have a great day!
