Actually I know why. I was walking in front of this statue everyday during more than 500 days of my life and I actually still have an office space in the building behind the picture.
The statue is a gift from India to celebrate its collaboration with CERN from the early 60ies. You can read all the details here.
Did you ever hear about the "explosions" that occurred at CERN around May 2014? It was kept hush-hush. This isn't the first or last time something like this has happened over there.

I was employed by CERN at that time. I don't remember anything about that. In addition, there is no residential area in CERN, except the hostel. And I can guarantee you that it has not been destroyed, for having used it many times since then.

I read into that Donald Marshall link you posted . So apparently there's a clone of him in some sort of complex with other people and he's tortured there during his REM sleep. This is also a similar method that the illuminati use to have secret meetings.
Another fun fact, he also claims to have written the R.E.M song 'losing my religion' ... REM sleep and R.E.M ... what a connection.
