Like Abigail, I'm terrified by spiders. So it was a challenge to read this - the touching, oh the touching of her face! But I got through it and I really loved it. I came from a manipulative family situation like the one you described, and it really resonated. Loved how the story unfolded and nanna's incentives were finally shown to us. I'm also wondering if the spider was a symbol for the love and freedom represented by Abigail's father? Anyway, this was a great story.
