Poem: Your children

in #writing7 months ago

Your children are not your children.
They are the children of life's own desires.
They come through you but not from you.
And though they are with you, you do not own them.
You can give them your love but not your thoughts.
Because they have thoughts of their own.
You can keep their bodies in the house but not their souls,
Because their souls live in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may want to be like them, but do not want to make them like you.
Because life never goes back, it does not spend tomorrow with yesterday.
