RE: I Read a Book!

in #writing8 years ago

This was my favorite post today. The last book I read was the one I read to my child last night. It was about a grandpa who baked a giant whopper cake. It was so huge that he had to mix the batter in the back of a pickup truck.

For me, I only read articles on Medium.....as well as books to my daughter. One of my favorites is Where The Sidewalk Ends.

As far as Somerset Maugham....I've read some books by him and he's a very good writer. Thanks for reminding me about him.

It doesn't surprise me that you like to read. Most good writers are readers....this is a little secret, as most people don't have the patience to do it.

That photo of your bookshelf was a funny part of this, because you put your logo there! I have a funny idea I might do now...

Sort:

Reading the printed word. How 20th-century. And I approve wholeheartedly!

Reading digital text, and particularly text found on the internet, is very convenient and can be very educational and informative. There's so much there and there's always more to look up and look into.

But therein lies one of the reasons that I still prefer reading a book or a magazine. When I read something online, I find myself straying from whatever is in front of me. On the other hand, if I'm sitting by the pool or in a cafe or in my easy chair, I'm essentially offline, and I can immerse myself in the story or the article.

Interestingly, when I'm reading the printed word, I find that I often come across topics that I want to discover more about. So, I jot the topic in the margins or on a scrap of paper. Soon enough, I'm back online, and I can google whatever has piqued my interest. But I was offline long enough to expose myself to some of the great writing that never makes it onto the net.

So, to paraphrase the title of this post ... Read a Book!

Where The Sidewalk Ends

That sounds like a fun book. Never really understood my Dad's fascination with W. Somerset Maughan. But I just found out today, as growing up, I find his books, which is scattered all over his bookshelf, hard to understand.

The logo on the shelf was an after thought :) Can I have a sneak peek into what the idea is?

Thank you for everything.

your logo-imprinted picture of a bookshelf inspired the idea of poking fun at the idea of "branding". So my idea is to take photos of the most mundane stuff around my house and brand it all with my logo.....all for a big laugh!

That would be fun. Hehehe

I"m also interested in these stories you mentioned...did you Dad write stories and where are they?

My dad wrote a lot of stories (non of it published). But he's passed on. I saw a scrap of paper with one of his writings like two years ago. But I lost it. I'll check to see if I'll see some when next I visit home.

Thanks for such a great find...and for all you do. :)
