Jim Weyer wandered around the observation deck watching the fish swim around him. He came here when he needed to get away from the job and work things out. He had been on the police force for forty years and had never seen anything like Marion Isenhour. He behaved as if he hadn't a care in The world. This was a dangerous attitude for an officer. Fresh out of the academy, Marion had already lost paperwork for a case he was assisting on.
Jim lapped the deck twice before going to sit in the center of the room. The benches were made of wood with wrought iron edging. Not the most comfortable but still easy on the eyes. He leaned back and lifted the file folder to look at it again. Paper clipped to the outside was the face of a smiling young man with smooth skin, short black hair and green eyes. He was the spitting image of his father at the same age. Jim rubbed a hand over his stubbled, aged face. Oh Gus. Such a shame we lost you when we did. Maybe if you had lived the boy would not be so flippant.
Jim was usually so sure of how to handle things but had never dealt with someone so ill prepared for the job at hand. He wanted to to storm the compound, strip Marion of his badge and uniform and blackball him from further service with any other police department. He knew better though. He had to give the full sixty day probation period. He decided at that moment he was going home to sleep on it. If he could get two days where he did not have to think about this he would be much more clear minded to make a decision.
He walked back to the office, tossed the file folder into the middle drawer of his desk, and told his second in command he was cutting out early. After getting to the front entrance of the building he crossed the hall and waited for the maglev to take him to residential block e. Living under water was no easier then living on land where it had become so overpopulated that it was recommended a maximum of ten million people stay while the remianing ten billion be moved to a neighboring solar system.
Winter is long and extemely cold. No matter what the habitat Jim was always thinking. Even in his sleep he was thinking of how to handle different situations. As he walked in the door the phone was ringing. He absent mindedly picked it up.
"Hello."
"Chief Weyer?"
Jim realized he had been on autopilot and hung up the phone. He turned to shut and lock the door before he headed into the livingroom to relax and read.

Huh! Had a nice sci-fi revelation in the end!
Enjoyed reading this.
Are you going to continue the story in future? Or does it end here?
This is far from the end. I'm just not sure where it will go. Thank you for reading and commenting. 😀
That's good to know. Let's see where it goes!
