It has been more than a year of "confinement" and this year I have seen many music videos, some better than others, but I have realized that music videos are more interesting than they may seem, since at the end of the day out, they are like a little movie. Some directors, for example, started their work with music videos, like David Fincher or Spike Jonze, great directors who have created hits like Seven or Her. On the other hand, there are the directors who in my opinion work better making music videos than movies, such as Zack Snyder or BRHTR, because they are better at making powerful images with little information and background, which is perfect at the time of transmitting what is expected to convey in a music video.
Ya va más de un año de “encierro” y en este año he visto muchos vídeos musicales, unos mejores que otros, pero me he dado cuenta de que los vídeos musicales son más interesantes de lo que pueden parecer, ya que al fin y al cabo, son como una pequeña película. Algunos directores, por ejemplo, empezaron su trabajo con vídeos musicales, como David Fincher o Spike Jonze, grandes directores que han creado éxitos como Seven o Her. Por otro lado, están los directores que a mi parecer funcionan mejor haciendo vídeos musicales que películas, cómo lo sería Zack Snyder o BRHTR, debido a que se les da mejor hacer imágenes potentes con poca información y trasfondo, lo que es perfecto a la hora de transmitir lo que se espera trasmitir en un video musical.
However, I am not saying that directing a music video is easier than directing a movie, I am just saying that it is different. As if it were a genre to add to the big screen, a video clip can have an incredible production, and a much greater significance to pop culture than some movies, and I say this with certainty by giving an example: people can forget The occasional movie from time to time, but the Take On Me video is as iconic as any blockbuster from the 80's or 90's, like the Delorean of Back to the Future or Michael Jordan scoring at Space Jam.

Cual si fuese un género que agregarle a la gran pantalla, un vídeo clip puede llegar a tener una producción increíble, y una trascendencia mucho más grande a la cultura pop que algunas películas, y digo esto con certeza dando un ejemplo: la gente puede olvidar alguna película de vez en cuando, pero el video de Take On Me es tan icónico como cualquier blockbuster de los 80’s o 90’s, cómo el Delorean de volver al futuro o Michael Jordan anotando en Space Jam.
To me, at least, I find it interesting to think that the person who created this trend was Michael Jackson with his full-length videos, and that now, not long after, even awards have been created solely for music videos. Where music videos have references to pop culture and where fans appreciate how a music artist grows not only because of his music, but also because of the production of his videos, such as The Weeknd referring to Halloween in his videos, Iggy Azaelea making a video that is a direct reference to Clueless, or Twice in What Is Love, creating a video tribute to cinema in pop culture.
A mí, por lo menos, me parece interesante pensar que la persona que creó esta tendencia fue Michael Jackson con sus vídeos de larga duración, y que ahora, no mucho después, se haya creado hasta premios únicamente a los vídeos musicales. Dónde los vídeos musicales tienen referencias a la cultura pop y dónde los fans aprecian cómo un artista musical crece no solo por su música, sino también por la producción de sus vídeos, como The Weeknd haciendo referencia a Halloween en sus vídeos, Iggy Azaelea haciendo un vídeo que es una referencia directa a Clueless, o Twice en What Is Love, creando un vídeo homenaje al cine en la cultura pop.
Now artists take into account that music videos are not only ways to promote their songs, but they have also created a way to convey what they feel, and show what they like and their influences in a more graphic way, thus being able to create a whole Lore through their videos, simply having fun or even creating a social criticism in a crude way; joining also with high-end directors who work to give a more marked touch to all the aesthetics that the artist seeks, thus becoming an “art within art”; Turning something around that before for emerging directors was seen more as a way of undertaking than anything else, now being an opportunity for artists to complement each other with other artists and create something that goes beyond music, not only to please to the fans, but also to create a whole world.
Ahora los artistas tienen en cuenta que los vídeos musicales no son solo formas de promocionar sus canciones, sino que también han creado una forma de trasmitir lo que sienten, y demostrar lo que les gusta y sus influencias de una forma más gráfica, siendo así capaces de crear todo un Lore mediante sus vídeos, simplemente divirtiéndose o hasta creando una crítica social de una forma cruda; juntándose también con directores de alta gama que funcionan para darle un toque más marcado a toda la estética que busca el artista, convirtiéndose así en un “arte dentro del arte”; dándole la vuelta a algo que antes para los directores emergentes se veía más cómo una forma de emprender que otra cosa, siendo ahora una oportunidad de los artistas de complementarse con otros artistas y crear algo que va más allá de la música, para no solo complacer a los fans, sino también para crear todo un mundo.
