Is YouTube Becoming a Cyber-Bullying Platform?

in #youtube8 years ago

I believe that YouTube is becoming a cyber-bullying platform for these reasons.

What is YouTube?

YouTube is a social media site where you can express your opinions in videos freely, and say anything you'd like to say. Most people post gaming videos or vlogs and can earn quite a bit of money from YouTube.

Currently, the biggest YouTuber named "PewDiePie" has 46 million subscribers and his estimated earnings per year are $1.1 million dollars up to $16.8 million dollars. Big YouTubers have made lots of money and can make a great living off of making YouTube videos for the world to see.

How is YouTube becoming a Cyber-Bullying platform?

Since YouTube is a social media website where people can say whatever they want and post whatever they want, some people will purposely cause hatred towards others for the viewers enjoyment.

Popular YouTuber named "LeafyIsHere" who has a following of 4.3 million subscribers, uploads videos making fun / cyberbullying 13 year old kids, people with autism, people who are "cringy," and he even makes fun of adults. Most people who watch this YouTuber love his videos and he manages to get hundreds of thousands of likes every video. LeafyIsHere has been called out by bigger and smaller YouTubers that have told him that he is being a cyber bully and all LeafyIsHere does about it, is joke about it. Leafy's estimated earnings per year is from 337 thousands dollars up to 5.4 million dollars. LeafyIsHere is cyber bullying people, getting away with it, and making money LOTS of money off of it. His channel can be found here: https://youtube.com/user/LeafyIsHere

How many people are doing this?

There is quite a bit of people doing this and making not as much money as Leafy is, but are still making good money off of it. Names of YouTubers who are currently doing it are: Pyrocynical, NFKRZ, HeyWatchYourMouth, KEEMSTAR / DramaAlert, and JoeySalads. These names that I've listed are only the people that are considered "popular" that have over 100,000 subscribers, imagine all the smaller YouTubers that try to act like the bigger YouTubers to get views. It is a lot.

What is YouTube doing to stop this?

Nothing, YouTube isn't doing anything, in fact, YouTube is encouraging it by putting these YouTubers on top searches in YouTube, putting these YouTubers in your recommended feed. YouTube loves these big YouTubers because these YouTubers make YouTube a lot of money. YouTube has the power to instantly shutdown any YouTubers they'd like, but they don't.

My opinions on YouTube

I honestly love YouTube, but I just feel like YouTube is one-sided favoriting these bigger YouTubers even though they are doing something that is trying to be stopped which is "cyber-bullying" I probably watch YouTube 2 hours a day and all I do is just avoid these YouTubers and watch the type of YouTubers that I am subscribed to.

Finally, what can you do to stop these bad YouTubers?

There is one way to stop these YouTubers and it is a very good way, you can flag these YouTubers videos for "Bullying or Harrassment" but honestly this will not do anything since YouTube favorites these YouTubers and doesn't want to shut them down. YouTube loves making money and they will continue to make money.

Yeah YouTube is getting really bad and young little cyber bullies like Leafy out there gaining massive amounts of subscribers off of it and making decent money doing it then a lot of people are gravitating that way. It is full of cyberbullying and fake pranks. :-( But there is still a lot of good on YouTube. Look up how to fix a certain part of your specific car and you will find the answer!

nice job you had very valid points
