And I'm already doing halfway decent! It's a small start, but for a single GTX970, this is workable. Now I just have to wait and hope that Zcash takes off even more than it has...

Seems like a good start.. have you calculated your electricity bills? Perhaps if you continue mining for a year and just hold the coins, you might see a huge gain..
That's my thought. I'm pretty sure I'm losing money on mining for Zcash, but hoping for huge gains.
Zcash was the first coin that got me into the world of mining. I found an App for my Iphone that would mine it. Wasn't very effective but taught me a lot. One of the things that I didn't like about some of the Zcash pools was that their rewards were kind of a "what have you done for me lately." So I could have chewing all day in the pool and then at the very end of the block, a bunch of users would jump on and kill my reward because they would sandbag. Kind of why I got out of Zcash. Maybe I was just in the wrong pools.
You must have been. I joined Mining Pool Hub, and my payouts have been in line with my hashing power. Still pulling something reasonably profitable, or so I think... We'll see how it pans out.
I was mining through Slushpool. It was easy enough to use but just the sand bagging was killing me.
For what it's worth, here's the number of shares today on Mining Pool Hub. Blue is expected, orange is actual. We're bouncing around, but for the most part, we're doing a damn good job of staying below target. Means higher payouts in the end.
Here's the link, by the way: https://zcash.miningpoolhub.com/index.php
good luck I got the GTX1080 for my flight simulator everyone says I should mine coins with it. I never tried though
You'll cut the life span of your GPU in half, just so you know. But hey, making money?
