Both coins’ White Papers have several common authors, but projects rely on completely different cryptography, so you could be sure that ZCoin Classic is completely standalone cryptocurrency, it is not some kind of fork of ZCash. If you still not sure about it, it should be better for you to compare white papers of these projects on your own. This will make difference to become obvious.
