Is Data Science A Future?? Or A Threat?

It's been a long time, I mean very long time...that I have been away from steemit. It has been very hard for me to keep up with my busy schedule. After all, I am a student :)

Let's come to the topic. What exactly is a data science?

here's what wikipedia says?

Data science, also known as data-driven science, is an interdisciplinary field about scientific methods, processes, and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms, either structured or unstructured, similar to data mining.

let's make it easy to understand!!

Data science...ah, it's something that involves analyzing and interpreting data. Okay, what do I mean by that? It's a process of finding insights between the data. It incorporates areas like mathematics, statistics and computer science to perform techniques like data analysis, data visualization, cluster analysis, data mining, machine learning, etc

Okay, Okaii...Data Science is Something That Involves Analyzing And Interpreting Data. Let's Explain Some More...like examples, and applications per say !

internet search

digital advertisement

recommeder system

image recognition

speech recognition

gaming

price comparison websites

airline route planning

fraud and risk detection

delivery logistics , and many more

looks like data science is everywhere, looks like it's the future of business, marketing, statistics and many more...how come it be a threat?

Data Science, it's not about interpretation but prediction.
You interpret and analyze data so that you can gain meaningful insights and predict some meaningful outcomes. You make some very good prediction model, and use them as a template to use them effectively. And, there are already much appreciative predictive model out there which you can never imagine.

What do you feel if anyone can predict your death someday? .... aww, just kidding !!

When it comes to the future, everything is a probability!!

Here are some predictive models that are already performing really well:

stock price prediction

can predict a stock price at the following day. uses lstm.

next word prediction

can predict the next word in a sentence. uses lstm.

caption generator

can predict or generate a readable caption for the given image. uses cnn, lstm, etc

statistical prediction

can predict some basic statistics like whether or not the credit card transaction was fraud, whether or not the email was spam, whether or not certain bank employee will leave the bank, whether or not you will die!! (LOL). Uses some basic machine learning algorithms. If the parameters are appropriate and accurate, the prediction can be as good as 95% or even 99% !!

(off course these includes some higher topics like machine learning, deep learning, AI, etc....data science is the foundation)

Do You Know?

• that facebook messenger can predict what are you going to reply ...from what called a "M suggestions"
• that youtube, netflix can predict what movies you are going to like the most...from what called a "recommendation"
• that google, facebook has a huge chunks of data which can be used for some serious data analysis

ps: I personally believe that data science has a great future. but, the data that is used for analytics should be transparent. NO MATTER WHAT, privacy should always be maintained!!

Is it the future or a threat? The answer of course is "yes". Data science is very useful in the pursuit of convenience and it is equally absolutely terrifying as vast cool unsympathetic entities use it to master us in entire and feed us what we want as soon as we want it -- or before we even want it.

Until finally, they will be able to make us want whatever they are selling and make us think it was our idea.
