En los días previos estuve hablando de este importante torneo, el segundo integrante del Grand Slam de golf que nuclea a los mejores jugadores del planeta, que ingresan por ranking, por excepciones obtenidas en torneos anteriores o por invitación de las autoridades.
Y el ganador fue Xander Scheuffele, un norteamericano de padre Alemán y madre japonesa que ya había ganado 7 torneos en el exigente circuito de la PGA, inclusive es el ganador de la medalla de oro en los juegos olímpicos de Tokio 2020, pero jamás había ganado un torneo mayor. El premio que obtuvo fue un cheque de 3.330.000 dólares y el famoso trofeo Wanamaker.
Xander había jugado de manera extraordinaria el día jueves, la primera de cuatro jornadas que componen un torneo organizado por la PGA necesitando solo 62 golpes para completar el recorrido de par 71 del campo de juego del Valhalla Golf Club ubicado en Louisville, estado de Kentucky, USA, con ese registro empató el récord de menor cantidad de golpes para una vuelta en toda la historia de los torneos de Grand Slam.
Schauffele no ganaba desde el año 2022 aunque había peleado en los primeros puestos, inclusive de estor torneos mayores donde lideró en varias oportunidades para finalmente caer derrotado, estas vicisitudes hicieron que comenzara a circular en el ambiente golfístico que el jugador de California no sabía cerrar los torneos y que su carácter sucumbía ante situaciones extremas.
El en día de ayer tiró por el suelo todas esas especulaciones con gran determinación y coraje, varios encumbrados rivales lucharon hasta el final para arrebatarle el título.
Entre sus perseguidores estaban los norteamericanos Bryson Dechambeau y Collin Morikawa, ambos ex ganadores de torneos mayores y otros grandes jugadores como el noruego Vicktor Hovland de creciente juego. También amagó con prenderse en la definición el ex campeón del British Open Shane Lowry quien el sábado había igualado la marca de 62 golpes y estuvo a punto de quebrarla ya que falló un corto putt en el hoyo 18 para establecer una marca jamás igualada en este tipo de eventos de 61 golpes, pero parece que ese día agotó todo su repertorio y no pudo volver a desarrollarlo el domingo, terminó en el 6to. lugar.

Por otra parte, estableció un nuevo record, -21 es el menor score registrado en la historia de los torneos de Grand Slam, no es poca cosa.
El USA Open, el tercer torneo mayor del año se jugará a mediados de junio en Pinehurst, Carolina del Norte, será una cita imperdible ya que este torneo tiene la fama de presentar los campos más difíciles de todo el circuito y en reiteradas oportunidades se ha ganado con scores por sobre el par de la cancha, el más recordado por mí fue el triunfo de mi compatriota Ángel Cabrera en el año 2007 cuando se impuso con +5 en el difícil trazado de Oakmont en Pennsylvania.
Y hablando de jugadores latinos, el chileno Joaquín Niemann fue el mejor ubicado terminando en el puesto 39 mientras que el argentino Alejandro Tosti finalizó en el lugar 63, el otro participante y compatriota Emiliano Grillo no pasó el corte clasificatorio al igual que el colombiano Camilo Villegas. Por la clase que me dió el ganador tuvo en excelente torneo y ese -21 es muestra de la gran cantidad de aciertos que tuvo en la competición.
Si aprendí bien, Open de Carolina del Norte, como dices, muy complicado y ese +5 de su compatriota así lo ratifica.

Así es @tonyes, jugaron varios de manera excelente y ese score de bajar 21 golpes el par de cancha es como dije el récord absoluto en un torneo de tanta importancia.
Sigamos con las clases, el campo es par 71 se juegan cuatro días con lo cual el par para todo el torneo es 71 x 4 = 284 por consiguiente Schauffele necesitó solo 263 golpes, es decir -21 golpes bajo el par del torneo.
